from the outside looking in, this is a misleading promo. The headline is:
Stay on the weekend by September 2, pay with your Visa® card ... get a $100 Bonus Bucks® coupon for your next stay. Add a fresh start with Stay for Breakfast® ... eggs, yogurt, wafffles, more! Just for two, or bring the kids. But hurry, offer expires July 31. But the T&Cs enforce significant restrictions which almost make the original headline deceptive: season of use is limited (Sep - Dec); and using the Bonus Bucks requires a 2 night consecutive stay, which is a significantly different proposition than a 1 night stay. However, it appears the Bonus Bucks would be valid at any property anywhere in the world, assuming the above 2 conditions are met. Further questions - Do you need to stay 1 night or 2 nights to earn each Bonus Bucks? Can you combine multiple Bonus Bucks to pay for your weekend stay in Sep -Dec? |
All $100 Bonus Bucks require 2 night stays. With the V12 promotion, you can earn one $100 Bonus Buck for a one night stay. The Visa Bonus Bucks are restricted to use at full service properties worldwide.
The V12 promo is good if you can find hotels that offer the rate outside of the weekend window. San Francisco Marriott and the NYC Marriott Marquis are two such properties. For the NYC Marriott Marquis, this rate is especially good if you are not gold or platinum since the full breakfast buffet is $24.95+tax & tip for an adult. Gold and platinum members can eat a free breakfast in the concierge lounge on weekdays, but this rate would save them money on the weekends when the lounge is closed (since the NYC Marriott Marquis does not give gold or platinum members free breakfast on the weekends). I don't think it will be possible to combine Bonus Bucks for this promo since they define weekend nights as Friday-Sunday when it comes to redeeming the Visa Bonus Bucks. Normally, Thursday is a weekend night if you also stay on Friday. They did that to increase the breakage rate of the Bonus Bucks. |
New V12 $100 Visa Bonus Bucks Promotion
1). Only 1 night is needed to earn the $100 bonus bucks paying with a Visa card;
2). To redeem the bonus bucks, you must stay 2 weekend nights at a participating hotel, anywhere from Sept. - Dec.; 3). It will depend on the hotel on what rate they will allow redemption of the bonus bucks earned during this promotion -- most will likely allow redemption on another bonus bucks promotion; 4). This promotion does NOT automatically include breakfast in your rate!!! In making certain reservations under this rate, I noticed that some rates were higher and specifically included the terms breakfast included, while others did not -- but still would get you the Visa bonus bucks. This is no error, nor an accident. From the Terms and Conditions of the promotion: Offer valid on Weekend Benchmark and Stay for Breakfast rates only. Must book by July 31, 2007 for weekend stays May 24 through September 2, 2007 at participating JW Marriott Hotels & Resorts and Marriott Hotels & Resorts in the Continental U.S. and Canada. Must stay over a Friday or Saturday night to get the promotional rate. Offer may be made available seven days a week at select locations. Stay for Breakfast rate includes breakfast for up to two adults and children age 12 and under. They may make an error and give you breakfast coupons, or they may usually provide same to Gold or Platinum members on a weekend -- even though they need not do so -- but just be aware that if the rate does not state that breakfast is included, it will likely not be included in the rate. Either way, these are still good rates in most instances! :) |
Bonus Bucks - Non-Usable w/ "Member" Rates?
Will be at a CY this w/end with a 2 nite paid stay - but am using a AAA rate. The Bonus Buck voucher says it cannot be used on a reservation with a rate that requires a membership - does anyone have any experience with this term/condition being enforced?
I am a newbie FT'er - this is my first post - just READING past posts has given me great information - thanks to all who are so helpful here!)^ |
yes I do
|
According to the terms and conditions, Bonus Bucks cannot be used on AAA rates, but some hotels don't enforce that policy strictly.

I've used BB many times on non published rates without problems. To be honest, the only trouble I've had with them is at Courtyards and they don't seem to get them very often and hold strict to the rules.
|
I have found it mostly NOT to be enforced. Uibd, thank U for the heads-up re: Courtyards.

thx for responses - I checked yesterday and was able to switch rate to the free brkfst promo rate - since it is published, I should now be ok.

Can you use both Premium Pounds and Marriott Cheques for payment?
Can you use both Premium Pounds and Marriott Cheques(USD) for payment?
I'm getting married at a JW and numerous friends and family have given me different types of gift certificates for Marriott...I also have a Marriott Gift Registry Gift card...can I use all of these payment options together? Also, can I use the premium pounds even though I've already booked my reservation? I'll be receiving my premium pounds in the mail shortly and I've never used them so I don't know the protocol...from what I've read, you are supposed to call and specify that you will be using premium pounds when booking your reservation. I'll be staying for 7 nights at my destination...can I use more than one premium pounds certificate? I'm thinking I can use my premium pounds together with my gift card for room payment options...(if I can even use the premium pounds given I've already made my reservations)...and then use my Marriott Cheques separately for things such as the spa (massages) and the Marriott restaurants since you can use these for individual transactions on Marriott sites. Any help or share of experience from you pro's would be greatly appreciated! |
First, call Marriott reservations and have them note in your record that you will using be Premium Pounds.
As long as you fully comply with the Ts&Cs (specifically, the rate restrictions) of the Premium Pounds, you can use them along with Marriott Cheques and your gift card. You can also use multiple PPs (1/two days) if you stay 4 or more days. One tip that has worked well for me is don't mix "currencies" in one transaction event. For example, when you check in, present your first PP. The next day, after you have confirmed the PP has posted to your acct (via OnCommand Account Review), present the Marriott Cheque. On the third day, present your second PP. Rinse and repeat as needed. It's always good to note the name of the person handling these transactions in case of a discrepancy. Congratulations on your weeding and enjoy your honeymoon. |
While that had been my experience, I recently was declined using both on two seperate occasions (as the new T&C state). Here is a quote I received in PM from Chris which concurs with my experience. For the record, I don't like the answer one bit. (Especially since I can go to the gift ship or restraunt and tender that cheque as CASH, however, I could not charge that meal to my room, and pay with the cheque)...
Re: Nasty new T&Cs change on Nov. 2007 BBs! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hi Jonathan, I received additional information regarding the question (included below) you had asked. I apologize for the delay in getting back to you. The cheques are not sold at face value to the general public and are issued to intermediaries (such as Marriott Rewards). As there is not a dollar for dollar exchange, they cannot be applied in addition to the Bonus Bucks. The cheques are also another incentive that subject the hotel to a 15% chargeback. The cheques are promotional items and cannot be combined with other promotional items. Let me know if you have any additional questions or concerns. I hope you have a great day. Kind regards, Chris |
Hmmm...so does using premium pounds exclude me from using my gift card? The gift card is a honeymoon gift registry card through marriottregistry.com--gift cards are publically available items and not promotional right?
|
I have not been declined but it's been three months since I've used them. The more recent experience is certainly more valid.
I still suggest the multiple transaction strategy. I have been successful combining other instruments when I knew that such use was not permitted. |
In the other thread we were assured that gift cards MAY be used as long as they were purchased at retail $ for $.
