When are you trying to book? I know this property is slow to load the reward rooms. There could be also be a convention going on. Why don't you call the hotel and ask?

I agree with the others, a bad deal redeeming the 1000 gift check, also I have experience that you will get a poor exchange rate on top of that. I used gift cheques in January and got 10 pesos to a dollar and it should have been 10.81.

Did you check the JW for redemption?

I would pay, (the rate is low), add more MR to your account and get those Premium Pounds. We had two rooms for three nights and they still let us use 3 (technically, should have let us use 2?)

Mid to late June. They have a maximum of 2 or 3 nights per each 7 day period that I've looked at.

JW was available, but at an additional $100 per night for an upgarde.

My case was exactly the same: Friday night, 2 rooms, XES promo code paying with AMEX, of course. I got an email from the hotel manager asking for an address to send me the BB certificates. Before that, the front desk manager on duty told me that a 2 night stay was required so my single night stay did not qualify. T&C read "Must be a registered guest and a consecutive two-night paid stay is required. One (1) credit per coupon, per two-night stay will be applied toward your bill at checkout when you pay with an American Express© Card" but it is not clear if it refers to the original stay or the subsequent made using the BBs. So, I am still waiting to see if I get them by mail.

Please tell me how it went with your stay.

There May Be Another Problem With These Bonus Bucks!

It may be an even worse promotion than usual with these Bonus Bucks.

I have not been monitoring this board as often as in years gone by, but there is another proviso that many may have overlooked.

Whereas most BB must be used on a 2 night stay at a publicly available rate (and there is some fudge involved depending on the property) these bonus bucks specifically state that to be used in the future, they must be booked while staying on another "Escape Package." These sorts of packages are often priced much higher than a simple 2 night weekend stay that the "regular" bonus bucks permit. I don't know if the hotels are enforcing this, but you are warned!

Terms & Conditions

Packages available at participating locations only. Packages and their offerings may vary by location. Day of week availability may vary by location. A limited number of rooms are available for this promotion. Packages available 2/1/07 - 4/16/07. Other restrictions, including blackout dates may apply. All applicable taxes not included. Advance reservations required.

$100 Bonus Bucks© coupon can be used toward a future two-night stay as part of an Escape!© Dining, Escape!© Romance or Escape!© Golf package at participating Marriott© Hotels & Resorts, JW Marriott© Hotels & Resorts and Renaissance© Hotels & Resorts worldwide. $50 Bonus Bucks coupon can be used toward a future two-night stay as part of an Escape! package at participating international Courtyard© hotels. Must be a registered guest and a consecutive two-night paid stay is required. One (1) credit per coupon, per two-night stay will be applied toward your bill at checkout when you pay with an American Express© Card. Bonus Bucks coupons are not redeemable for cash or Marriott Gift Certificates. No change or credit will be given on unused portion of the Bonus Bucks coupon. Bonus Bucks coupons are not valid on any rates that requires ID or membership to receive discount including catering, group or contract rates. They are valid only on publicly listed rates through the 800 number listed below. You must be a registered guest to redeem your coupon and make a reservation directly with Marriott by calling 1-800-606-3562. A Bonus Bucks coupon can be applied to accommodations, dining, spa services and/or gift shop purchases which are charged to your guestroom. Use of Bonus Bucks coupon is not combinable with other offers. See reverse side of coupon for complete terms and conditions. Tax is additional. Bad and Good News

You´re right and this condition, if enforced, will limit the use of BBs big time. By the way, I got a very kind email from the hotel confirming that my certificates are on the mail. Then, the promo applies for a one night stay.

pagotto Mar 3, 2007 1:54 pm

Anyone know whether the hotel is responsible for fulfilling this or Amex. Just checked into a hotel with this rate code and was told at the front desk, after showing them the promo, that Amex would be sending out the BB.

Any ideas?

Initially I was told the same but I almost sure they are wrong. The hotel should give you the BBs at check-out. Marriott is sending me the certificates now.

Amex Promo = A Mess Promo

I checked out today after a one night stay under the Amex bonus bucks promotion. I was given four $25 bonus bucks certificates with the explanation that this full service Marriott did not have any $100 certificates. The bad news is that each $25 certificate says that only one can be used towards a 2 night stay. The good news is those stays do not have to be an upgraded get away package and they don't expire until Feb 2008, so I will have plenty of time to use all four of them. The bonus for me was they let me use a gift card at check out and never asked to see an Amex card.:)

BBs with restrictions

I got my BBs on the mail and not only they are valid until May 1st (very short time to redeem them) but also I have to book a Escape package code PES.

Just called to try and redeem one. Was told I could use it on any publicly listed rate - will try and see

We got 2 certs one for each room with cut off date 1 May 2007.

They (Front desk) seemed to know what they were doing and after a few minutes delay in getting them from the safe, returned with a cert for each room.^

hhoope01 Mar 17, 2007 4:59 pm

I received one this morning and the person checking me out asked me if I could use it before May 1st as she still had some of them. I told her if she would apply it to the balance of my 2nd room, then I didn't care about the expiration date at all. So she applied it right there and I didn't even see the coupon. ^

I've had some interesting experiences using GBP Premium Pound Certs in the LA area. In February I used one at the Ontario Marriott and was given an exchange rate of $194! Two weeks later, at the LA Downtown Marriott I was given an exchange rate of $165! The LA Downtown MArriott showed me a copied exchange rate sheet that was almost 2 weeks old (funny, it was close to the date of the Ontario property stay). LAst weekend I used another at the LA Downtown Marriott and again was given an exchange rate of $165! When they showed me the sheet that they quoted from I noticed that it was almost a month old! The front desk manger called me later that evening to say that they will acknowledge that the rate sheet was weeks old and that rates change daily. He checked on line from his resource and gave me the current rate of $195!

LESSON: Sometimes it might be more advantageous to use the 'one night free' coupons for weekend stays.

Premium Pounds for long stays

Hi!

I've got some questions about Premium Pounds :)

Is this OK to use them for long stay? Does every Marriott HAVE to accept them? Can they refuse? Why? Has anyone used them for more than 3-4 weeks in one go? And last question: how to use them?

Many thanks in advance for all answers :)
Regards
Chris

the other value to the free nite cert is that you avoid the taxes,
although you will not get a nite credit, unless an error is made
