I thought we could use the £50 at Fairfield Inn and all the other lower-end Marriotts. But I have a handful of them now with expiration July - Oct 2007, and they only list Courtyard in addition to the full-service properties. Has anyone else noticed this?

Look at the T&C on the back of the certificate

I have one that expires in September, and while on the front it does list only Full Service and Courtyards, check on the back where they print the actual terms and conditions.

When I turn mine over, paragraph 1 of the T&C says "This coupon is VALID* at . . ." and lists Residence Inn, SpringHill Suites, TownePlace Suites, and the good old standby Fairfield Inn as well as Courtyard and the FS brands. The only exclusion is Marriott Vacation Club International, Marriott ExecuStay, and Marriott Executive Apartments.

So, if yours says what mine does, it still should be good at Fairfields and the other economy brands.

* Bolding on the certificate itself.

Amex/Bonus Bucks promo problems

I just checked out from the Ren Denver where I booked a room with the Amex promo that gives you $100 bonus bucks per stay if you pay with the card. The front desk manager told me that she never saw a bonus buck certificate and was completely unaware of this promo even when the details were clearly stated in my booking (both in my confirmation and in the system). She was very attentive but I had to leave the hotel without my certificate hoping to fix this problem at a later time with Customer Service, from which I am still awaiting a response. Lately, it looks that more and more hotels ignore some of the promos that Marriott launches and we have to struggle all the time to get the benefits.

By the way, I can't find the details of this current promotion. Can anybody tell me where to find them? Is the code AEX or AMX?

I had a similar issue over the holidays at a CY. Manager said she thought corp/customer service sent the certificates - she didn't keep any on-site.

She made some phone calls, got the scoop, and sent me the certificate in the mail, along with a credit of extra points for my trouble. She was very apologetic, and bent over backward to try and get my business next time.

Yes, it speak to training. But my advice to you is to stay on them, talk to the hotel general manager (not just the front desk manager) and insist that the local manager escalate it up the chain so they don't make the mistake again.

The code for this promo is XES.

Slightly off-topic but I've noticed one or two properties in the UK that have availability for this promo but nowhere in the rate rules does it mention that you must reserve and pay for the booking with an AmEx card. It would be interesting to see if you paid with MasterCard/Visa, whether you would get your BB/PP.

Thanks for the code Glenn. I could not find a trace of this promo anywhere to sustain my claims. No news from Customer Service yet. I'll call the hotel again.

Here is the offer on the AMEX site.

Here is the offer on the Marriott site.

Glad I am not the only one to notice this! Is frustrating to say the least when just about every single time you have to explain at check in/check out what you've booked... even with major promotional campaigns like the HPR Hertz 3 for 2 offer or the Platinum Rewards free weekend night one... I've even handed over a bonus bucks certificate to a totally blank expression!

Question on multiple rooms

I have got a stay at a UK Marriott next Friday using the Amex code. I have got 2 rooms booked but was going to ask for a coupon for each room. Any ideas if this will fly?

I will be using an Amex card.

Traviss Feb 22, 2007 5:23 am

I wouldn't view this as unreasonable at all - they're earning exactly the same amount of revenue as if two separate people made two totally separate bookings. I would absolutely ask for two coupons.

Help with using point, BonusBucks - Marriott Cancun

Hello everyone,

Lurked here for quite sometime. Always been a great site.

Here's what I need help with...

I have enough points (230,000) for two category five rooms at the CasaMagna Cancun Marriott. Unfortunately, this is only enough points for a Standard award and not a StayAnytime award and there are no Standard award rooms available for the dates that I'd like to travel. I'd rather not spend the points on a StayAnytime award if possible, so here's my plan.

I can book rooms at $159+ a night. I plan to spend 135,000 points for the elite level Marriott Cheque - $1000 - and then use BonusBucks to help offset the rest of the cost of the trip - $100 for each two night stay.

I'm not sure if this is a viable or the "best" option to get the best bang for my points and $$. Would I have to book my stay in two night increments to use the BonusBucks? Am I able to book at a discounted rate using BonusBucks? Am I able to use them internationally, in this case Mexico?

Any help or any better suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

You don't have to book separate reservations to use the Bonus Bucks for every two night stay. I would get some of the Marriott Premium Pounds Bonus Bucks as they would save you about $180 off a two night stay. These are good world-wide and can be found for around $65-$75 each. PM me if you need help finding them.

You have to use these on a publicly available rate so these are not supposed to be used with AAA rates or anything that requires membership.

I would not redeem 135,000 for a $1000 Marriott check. 125,000 miles will get you a week in a 1 bedroom vacation villa worth much more than $1,000.
I have used Bonus bucks and Premium Pounds at both the Casa Magna and JW in Cancun, most recently a 10 day stay in 2 rooms at the JW Cancun.
If you have a Marriott Rewards Premier Visa you will get 5 points per dollar. In addition, you'll get 10 base plus elite bonus on 2 rooms. This is a great way to grab a good number of additional points.
Just, a word of caution, in 5 stays in different Marriotts in Mexico, I have never been created with the proper number of points. It has always been significantly lower. This however was quickly rectified with a call to Customer service and faxing of my folios.

I agree about the "value vs reward" with the 135,000 points, but my issue is trying to offset the cost of the vacation with using points. I'll have to weigh when I might be able to use them in the future I guess, since freetime is not in abundance.

Thanks to you both.
