I never thought that it could be used with advance payment, since it was to handed in at check-in and the bill will be reduced by that amount.
Now a BB or PP does NOT have to be used only against room rates, but can be used to offset anything that you can charge to your room that is Hotel owned. So if theres a SPA thats 3rd party owned then it shouldntr be able to be used. But if the SPA is owned by the hotel then no prob. I always assumed that it was just a Voucher like COs that its good up a certain value for a Single use = No Change back if you didnt use it all up. |
PP in hand;
#7 on the back of it: PP coupons are not redeemable for cash or Marriott Gift Certificates. No change or credit will be given on any unused portion of the PP coupon. |
#3 on the back;
Credit must be established at check-in by presenting a valid form of payment as well as surrendering the PP Coupon. I guess one might want to say that presenting a confirmation of the stay having already been paid for should count. I read it as either give the PP along with Cash, your check or your CC, at the time of check-in which seems to infer that the stay still has NOT been paid for as yet. and the value of the PP will be deducted from what you will have to pay, rather then from what you may already have paid. thats why if a Hotel doesnt want to accept it upon check-out, they would be in their rights as it wasnt presented at check-in. |

The certificate was for max $95. They are arguing that it should only apply to incidentals and not to the room rate since that was advanced purchase. My contention is that it should apply to the room charge so there wouldn't be any unused portion. |

Unfortunately I would agree with the Hotel on this, but it didnt hurt to try. hopefully you didnt lose any $$ on using it. the bad part is Im sure the Hotel will get the full value of it, maybe if you think you'll be back there again soon, ask if they might credit you the difference towards items other then the room rate on your next stay. It cant hurt to ask, but dont get you hopes up or argue about it with them. |
I have used PP BB on advance purchase rates.
The last time was at Marriott Lisbon. I had a ten night stay prepaid on my credit card. When I checked in I presented my x5 100 PP BB and was given full credit. When I check ed out I was told the credit would be applied to my credit card that was used for the reservation. Advance rate is a publicly available rate, so you should have no problems. |
I submitted a 100 PP certificate at the Fremont Marriott in March and I received a $12 credit as the total bill for two nights was less than the $180 exchange rate. :)

What an Individual Hotel does I feel shouldnt be expected from ALL Hotels. There were reports awhile ago where people reported that the Hotel accepted say 2 BBs even though they were staying only for 3 nights. Others said they were able to use more than 1 BB even thou they were staying only 2 days.
Id say if any Hotel is willing to do something which is against the rules GREAT. But that we shouldnt expect or even be Mad if a Hotel will hold by the Strict T&Cs of the BBs or PPs. so you got a credit for an unused portion Great but dont expect it every time. You were able to use it on a Prepaid stay Great but also dont expect it every time. The Hotel took more then 1 for a 2 day stay or took 2 for a3 day stay. my hat is Off to You, but dont expect it to happen every time. |

I booked a 1-night prepaid deposit rate for 2 nights last Sep. in San Fran. I presented a PP to cover the 2nd night. I had $5.24 left over, so I bought candy bars in their gift shop totaling $5.25. They told me that I needn't have done so because the deposit was cash equiv. & therefore cash-refundable as overpayment.
They did excuse me from paying the last 1 cent ;) . |

I am staying now at a Renaissance whose gift shop sells Marriott Gift Cards ;) but it is moot because the rate is $215 a night & they obey the rules strictly here--no getting lucky. The front desk clerk even asked the Account Manager for me, who said No.

craz, were you using a public fare overseas?
I am booked in the UK in a couple of weeks with a 3 letter company specific code and am debating on whether or not to cancel and just book the website rate depending on the savings comparison. |
I know it is a long shot, but is there a hiden rule that a Marriott will take two 50 Premium pond notes in place of a single 100 pond note?
If not does it cross the Marriott policy for me to try and find someone to trade 4 50s for 2 100s? |
At least one person claims to have done this. I never have and would expect a battle over trying to do it, but who knows? If you want to make a trade, please take that proposal to Coupon Connection.
