As long as the rate is eligible it does not matter which method was used to book the reservation

Went through the Premium Pounds T&C again and found that "PP cannot be used .. for reservations made using a travel agency". Had forgotten this one.

But then again one can book say 3 days through Priceline and one last directly.
The rate clearly qualifies, and Marriott defines "stay" regardless of check-in and out activity on the same day, so that's a 4 day stay... :)

Bonus bucks questions and issues [Merged threads]

I recently stayed on a bonus bucks rate that was to give me a $50 certificate. On check-out I inquired about the certificate and the guy had no idea what I was talking about and suggested the hotel would mail me the cert. Granted, it was 4 in the morning so it might have been clueless night-shifters. I also had to catch a flight so I didn't press the issue.

Will they mail me the certificate?

They probably will mail it to you. You might need to call or email a manager directly and explain the situation. Whenever I have booked a rate that includes Bonus Bucks, I have had to ask for it at check out. All three times they've given me one, but these were all at a decent hour of the morning.

If you're thinking of doing something like that, I'd suggest booking the first day thru Marriott (not the last).

You're supposed to hand in the certificate upon check-in, remember, so you'd want to make sure that the check-in day qualifies.

Hello Everyone!!!

Bonus bucks are treated as cash at check-in. You would still earn points based on the original rate that you reserved with.

Also, has anyone on this thread ever used 2--$50 BBs on a 2-night stay. I have. Granted, the BBs stipulates 1 coupon per 2 day stay, but since I had an expiration date forthcoming, I didn't have a problem with the front desk accepting them.

Like to hear your experiences.

In most cases, my use of Bonus Bucks did not reduce the MR points that I earned. But once in a while the Bonus Bucks have been posted in a way that did reduce points earned. I complained about this procedure in New Orleans, and the desk clerk called Marriott Rewards (or somebody similar) for clarification. They said that Bonus Bucks should not be treated like cash, and the reduction in points earned was correct. Needless to say, I disagreed strongly but could do nothing under the circumstances.

I had a similar curcumstance years ago, and simply had the desk print out a "pro forma" bill as though I was paying all in cash/credit card, as well as the "actual" bill, then sent both to the Marriott Rewards Customer Service folks. The error in point posting was corrected in less than two weeks.

So there may be something you can do . . . :)

The back of the Bonus Bucks specifically states that they should be posted as a credit, not an adjustment. You should earn points on the amount paid with the BB/PP. "Treated like cash" is perhaps a misnomer - I have no idea how Marriott treats cash vs. these certificates on their end - but the point is, from your perspective, they should post as a credit.

Whether it's worth following up on is your call. On a Premium Pounds error during the 2x promo last fall, I did follow up and get the points posted.

I had a stay 1 1/2 weeks ago at the Crystal Gateway Marriott--Arlington, VA. I used 2 $50 BBs for 2 nights. Using the M11 code, the original rate was $99/night. It was accepted with question. It's like getting two nights for the price of one. Note: The expiration was March 13th, so I had no problem using them.

Any one else use multiple BBs within 1 2-day stay? Let me hear your experiences, if any?

priceline and bonus bucks

i have a priceline marriott stay 2 days in the Renaissance Brussels Hotel can i use a BB cert for my incedentals? the room is already paid for but i would like to use the BB for other things

thanks

According to the rules no.

According to the one time I tried at the Mexico City JW, yes. It will depend on the hotel. If it is a US hotel, I give it about a 2% chance. If it is an international hotel, I'd say 15% chance.

Best thing to do is when you check-in present the BB and try to have them apply it to your folio. Let them know you will be expecting to apply charges to your room such as room service, mini bar etc... Get a receipt. That way, you will find out prior!

It worked for me! :D

Prem Pounds or Bonus Bucks - Who pays for them?

This is a question that can only be answered by someone inside the Marriott organization:

When a guest uses a Bonus Bucks or Premium Pounds certificate, is the hotel reimbursed the full amount by whomever acts as a clearinghouse? Does the Hotel or Resort eat the $100 or 100Pounds or do they collect the full amount and the promotions or marketing pays it out?

Thanks because I am curious.

Counsellor Mar 8, 2006 12:19 am

Well, I don't know the answer, but based on the wording on the certificates,

Hotel Personnel: To receive credit, accepting hotel must void each award immediately upon use, and process in the MIFS Certificate System. Franchise MFR, JWMHR, RHR and hotels outside the USA and Canada must send room revenue information to <address> to receive reimbursement.
it would appear that the property receives something for the certificates (or else this is all an elaborate guise to fool the public -- hold on a second, my tinfoil hat is slipping :D).

I'd also be interested in the answer, if it isn't a corporate secret. The properties I've used the certificates at usually seem happy to receive them, which doesn't sound as though they're getting hurt by them.

The main question I'd have is whether the credit (if in a currency other than that on the face of the certificate, e.g., Bonus Bucks used in Euroland or Extra Euros used in the UK) is posted to the property at the Marriott exchange rate (listed on the site), or at some lesser rate (like that the hotel gives for cash).
