I have one BB with following printed on it:

January 1 -March 31, 2010

Marriott rules make it abundantly clear that you must show ID when checking in regardless of rate...so I don't think they can disqualify me because I'm using the senior rate. I'll have several chances to use it between now and March 31. I'm fairly confident some youngster behind the counter will accept it with a broad smile. On the other hand, I certainly don't want to get into a peeing contest with any front desk personnel.

Corporate does NOT cross reference bonus bucks being processed and turned in with the actual reservations the bonus bucks are being used on. I have asked front desk staff whether I can use my bonus bucks on this reservation or that reservation, and the answer has always been "sure, why not?" no matter what kind of rate I am staying in that hotel on.

I will arrange a large tour, if anyone knows where to get Bonus Bucks cheap so I can low the lodging cost, please PM me, thanks

A big group tour? Of what and where? Lower the lodging cost of what and where?

A property well experienced with BB's absolutely can and will disqualify you from using a BB on a membership rate - and they are entitled to do so. Using ID to prove you are you and using it to prove you are qualified for a specific rate are 2 completely different processes. As others have said, you may get an inexperienced person or a hotel who doesn't care - lucky you - but you can't count on it. And you will have no recourse for appeal, as the T&C's clearly state......

Corporate may not....But if you review further threads on BB's you will see that you have been lucky - some hotels will honor them on any rate - but many will not. And an inexperienced clerk may ask a manager...who, unless he just wants the biz, will decline it.

Getting a BB accepted on "any" rate is definitely a game of chance....

You may be surprised to know that I do not disagree with you. However, I did not state the case accurately enough. I know you are correct, as you said, there are many hotels which will turn them down, as I said, there are also many hotels which will take them under almost any circumstances, and I have even run across several hotels where the front desk staff does not even know what they are or does not know how to process them or that they are supposed to be given out upon check out for certain kinds of rates, and I could go on and on, but I am sure you have experienced similar.

So this morning, I go to check out, and I want to take care of a portion of my bill using gift cheques. I did this last week with no problem. Today, I'm told that they can't take them because the rate for my room (a corporate rate) wasn't publicly available. They ended up taking them, but said they wouldn't accept it anymore. Has this happened to anyone else?

At one time you were able to buy Bonus Bucks really cheap. Is that offer still around?

It appears that the front desk person was mistaking the gift cheques for bonus bucks. The gift cheques are supposed to be the same as using cash, so there should be no restrictions.

eBay now removes them when they can as it violates Marriott's terms/conditions printed on the back. Some private parties sell them for about $53 each, not as reasonable as they used to be.
