Well, to add another twist to this, I've been told by hotels and Marriott Concierge that if I have a stay of 3 nights or more, but one of those nights is a "free" night because of the bogo...then I may not use any kind of Marriott coupon such as a Bonus Bucks.

Correct; Bonus Bucks cannot be used in conjunction with other promotional offers such as BOGO certificates.
Best regards, Drew Drew, with all respect, that is NOT what is written on the back of the Bonus Buck coupons, which state that the coupon can be used with any "publicly available rate". I understand that to mean that rates that require membership of some kind such as AAA, corporate, or Government employee (or BOGO certificates because one must be a Marriott Rewards member) cannot be used in conjunction with Bonus bucks because those rates are not available to the general public. However, if the hotel is having a local promotion, i.e. stay 2 nights and get free museum passes or stay the weekend and kids eat free, the use of Bonus Bucks should be allowed because those rates are PUBLICLY AVAILABLE and do not require membership. Am I right? wrong? or simply crazy? Newman |
Drew,
What about the Target Gift card rates at Courtyard? Those were publicly offered. Do they qualify for use with a BB or PP? |

Bonus Bucks....not so useful
I always ignore any Bonus Bucks promotions because I found they have way too many restrictions which significantly reduce the real value of BB.
The target gift card promotion in my opinion is much more attractive. |

Marriott Concierge,
The promotion referred to by the above poster, "Montreal Sweet Deals package", Stay One Night get the second at half price, is a promotion that is PUBLICLY AVAILABLE and requires no membership of any kind. Can one use Bonus Bucks or Premium Pounds? Again, I think you need to re-evaluate your previous statement that Bonus Bucks cannot be used for all promotional rate so that you are in agreement with the wording on the back of the certificates which say no such thing. Thank you for your patience.
I can confirm Bonus Bucks may be used in conjunction with the Montreal Sweet Deals package, as it is a publically available rate and does not require membership.

If the rate rules state “This rate cannot be combined with other Marriott certificates and/or offers,” Bonus Bucks cannot be used. However, if you are concerned whether or not a Bonus Buck can be used in conjunction with a certain promotional rate in the future, please do not hesitate to send us a private message or email. Best regards, Drew |

Bonus Bucks are system wide payment method valid for any PUBLICLY AVAILABLE rate, so how can a hotel locally override this rule by just putting "This rate cannot be combined with other Marriott certificates and/or offers" in rate rules? And even if the rate is a worldwide Marriott promotion with the "This rate cannot be combined .. " wording, you now have two equally "strong" contradicting T&C. Why go with the one favoring the hotel, not the guest who wants to use BB on a publicly available rate? |

Elite BOGO Weekend Night Certs & Bonus Bucks?
If I book a 3 night (Fri, Sat & Sun) stay at a "publicly available" rate that qualifies for a free night under the T&Cs of the Elite BOGO cert can a Bonus Buck also be used as the reservation also has 2 "paid nights"?

Yes. If you get real sticklers at the front desk you may have to explain it to them slowly, pointing out why what you're doing is in perfect compliance with the fine print. But if push comes to shove and they call corporate to get guidance (happened to me once in this exact situation) they will very firmly be told to shut up and color.

I had a stay at a courtyard, at check-in I presented some BB certs (had a LNF rate). They told me I could use the certs, so I signed them. At Check-out I was gonna told I couldn't use the BB certs because I have a "discounted rate". I complained but without any success, then I asked them if I'm able to give the BB with my name on it to friends or relatives, they said yes, other people could use the BB certs, although they have my name on it. My question now, because I can't use them on my next stays, is this information correct? Can someone else use the coupons?
