Bonus Bucks + Publicly Available promo rate

Hi,

I just returned from a weekend stay at the Renaissance Plantation, FL. I just want to confirm on the usage of the Bonus Buck coupon.

Is it not eligible to use this coupon with promotion rates? I think this is more or less as the other thread on the S4B rate. The hotel had a special rate for shopping at the nearby Sawmill Mall with vouchers, but when I checked in, I was informed that if I wanted to use the BB, I would need to revert back to the hotel normal rate of 129.90 USD.

Since I was not in the mood to investigate it further, I just gave in and agreed to pay that rate and forgo the earlier promo rate I booked.

So, which is correct here? In my understanding this BB should be valid for all publicly available rate or am I wrong.

Thanks....

:)

No, you are not wrong. If the rate was publically available, then the hotel should have accepted the BB. The easiest way to determine a public rate is to access marriott.com and try to make a res without logging in OR selecting any groups like AAA, Senior Discount, etc. Any rate that shows up is a publically available rate.

I would contact the hotel GM if the above was the case. (and especially if your BB has a short date on it!)

The stay has passed and I did manage to use the coupon after agreeing to change the rate I initially book to a normal rate. But just think I should have been eligible too with the initial rate offered.

Just an update: received a call from I think the GM/Manager of the hotel and was told that what was informed to me was correct. The package that I booked is not considered a publicly available rate because we would have to search for it in the "Packages" section of each property. I did not argue about it since I have no idea how to challenge that. But I still think that it should have been eligible as I consider this to be just like any packages such as the S4B or Romantic package, etc...

I usually use PP, not BB, but with PP's and I'll assume BB, they can be used for other then room fees; ie. spa, restaurants, etc.

For some reason, I have found Ren's to be the worst in accepting/applying BB's. (One told me they did not accept them. When I pointed out the verbiage "accepted worldwide" the clerk said "that doesn't include us". &)

IF the rate shows when one logs on to the Marriott website without signing in and without entering any codes, then it is a publicly available rate. IF it doesn't - then the hotel can really make the choice as to whether to accept it.

If you want to pursue this further I would send a PM to the Concierges who monitor this forum, OR to Marriott CS in Utah.

Wow, just wow… That is beyond illogical…

So a rate is not public because it is on their website. Hard to argue with that indeed, because usually that would be a proof that the rate IS public, but apparently not in their universe…

Urgent: Free Renaissance Savvy Savings $50 off two nights

Hi - unfortunately, I did not know until tonight that I would not be able to use this at the Renaissance Las Vegas, where I just checked in. It expires December 16, 2008! If you are staying in vegas at a marriott property and can use it, let me know, I will try to get it to you. Otherwise, if you let me know tonight perhaps I can mail it to a property you are staying at.

Not favorably impressed with this property so far. More on that later.

That property is nice, when the lounge is open. However, they are really unreasonable with accepting any Marriott coupons (Bonus Bucks/Savvy Savings/Premium Pounds). Hopefully, someone staying at the Renaissance LAX could use it on short notice.

They say that they have closed two floors. All rooms that have capability of connecting more than 1 laptop are closed. They also insisted that I had to pay a rate higher than the current regular rate if I wanted to use the bogo instead of the coupon. Had to get plat reservations involved to get them to let me use a bogo. In all probably close to an hour of my time wasted with all of the shennanigans tonight. No room upgrades available either.

I'm not very pleased.

I'm getting tired of getting these coupons that are so difficult to use and require me to pay a higher rate that exceeds the value of the coupon.

Denied use of Bonus Bucks with Look No Further Rate, not supported by Customer Care

I am at full service Marriott property. The rate I received was discounted through the Look no Further department. The Look no further department, for the first time I know of for anyone, will not support that a LNF rate automatically qualifies as a rate type for use with bonus bucks (at a property type the BB are allowed for). I am now stuck with a Bonus Bucks expiring January 5 that I cannot use. I could have used this last week when I was going to pay rack rate at a FS Marriott if I had known this was going to be a problem with a LNF rate.

I consider this to be VERY unfair and this is the most ridiculous thing that has ever happened to me at a Marriott property.

After contacting the LNF department after the front desk denied for the second time my Bonus Bucks based on the LNF rate being a "discount" rate with they said the support of the LNF folks, here is the response I got from the LNF folks:

Dear xxx,

Thank you for contacting Marriott. We appreciate the opportunity to provide you with information.

We did talk with the front desk and verified that the correct reservation was changed for your Look No Further Claim. The front desk will re-examine the rate you previously had booked to see if they are able to honor the Bonus Buck coupon for you.

If we can be of further assistance, we invite you to reply to this email.

Thank you for choosing Marriott.
I am very upset about the unfairness of this. And

This is odd.

In order to qualify for LNF one has to use public rates anyways. Public rates should qualify for BB thus LNF should as well.

Just my 2 cents.

I was able to use BOGO on LNF.
