I do just the opposite, and have had 100% success so far. I KNOW that technically they cannot be used with EEO or discount rates, and so just ask nicely at check-in. I even explain to the front desk clerks that the fine print says I CANNOT use the Bonus Bucks in conjunction with the other offer, and invariably (and without hesitation, I must add) they take it anyway. Marriott corporate must be quite generous when it comes to reimbusing properties for Bonus Bucks, because like I said, I've never (not ONCE) had a problem.

I'll consider trying that in the future. Many times I've seen that the GOV rate is actually more than $50 below the actual "eligible" rate, so it can't hurt to try.

Bonus Bucks @ MVCI

Marriott Internet Customer Care

I have one of the $100 BB that gives stay options of Marriott/JW/Renaissance/MVCI. It expires 10-10-2005 and I wanted to use it for the Palm Desert Vacation Club property.

I can understand that rules change. I just spoke with three (3) separate reservations agents who insisted no ifs/ands/buts about it, that the $100 BB are not valid at MVCI, even if the certificate says it's accepted. Each of them put me on hold and claimed to have escalated the question to both their local management and the Gift Certificate/BB department. They claim to have heard of the "Marriott Internet Customer Care" department, but apparently this is a department which is unreachable by phone.

If they changed the rules, OK, I can live with it (not like it, but live with it). It's just annoying to have the Department A give one answer while Department B gives the opposite one.

Argghh.

I also had "one of the $100 BB that gives stay options of Marriott/JW/Renaissance/MVCI" and also rec'd conflicting info about using it at the MVCI in Breckenridge.

I made a res online for MVC Breckenridge for a great rate of $85 (2 nites in August at the only rate avail online, Summer Break Rate). Then realized I have some $100 Bonus Bucks so called the 800# to confirm using them and have the resv noted.

On the first call to Marriott, the CSR said since I already had the resv I needed to check with the hotel but he was sure it was ok (never looked up anything about the hotel or the resv). He wasn't very convincing so I called again and got a very helpful CSR who also quoted the $85 rate but had to check on using the Bonus Bucks. According to her supervisor, MVC no longer accept Bonus Bucks as of March 2005 (even tho' the fine print on the cert that I have specifically incl the Marriott Vacation Club Int'l).

So...I called the hotel. They were very pleasant, again quoted the $85 rate, but said if wanted to use Bonus Bucks it would be $140/nite! If my math is correct...that's $180 total for the privilege of using Bonus Bucks or $170 total if I skip the Bonus Bucks!

Decided to take our chances on using the BB anyway and, at the hotel, they did read the fine print on the BB...saying there had been a recent change and the newer BB coupons no longer included MCVI. But, other than checking the fine print, it worked great. Getting $100 off a $170 stay is fantastic...and the MCVI Breckenridge was wonderful!

I'm staying with a group rate (wedding). According to the terms you can't use the certificate with group rates, but I called the number on the certificate and told them I wanted to make reservations with the group code and use the bonus bucks. They accepted the reservations so I assume it won't be a problem. You might try the same.

Just returned from PHX. I had no problem using the $100 BB's at the Scottsdale Suites Marriott.

Have any of you, used the bonus bucks without calling the 800-number.

I have an existing reservation in MCO and wonder if I should cancel that reservation and make a new one by calling the 800-number.

I have used the bonus bucks several times without calling the 800 number and never had a problem. One time I was using a AAA rate which they said (at the front desk) was ineligible, bumped me to a higher rate and then allowed the use of the bonus bucks.

I've found a weekend rate at the Marriott in Victoria BC of $103.20CDN plus tax ($120)/night...

*FALL PROMOTION*STAY 2 NIGHTS RECEIVE 20 PERCENT OFF EACH NIGHT RATE ALREADY REFELCTS 20 PERCENT DISCOUNT*DELUXE CITY VIEW ROOM

If I stay 2 nights (~$240 total) and use a 100 pound (UK) bonus thing will they give me the room for almost nothing (will be small change after exchange)?

Ron.

I have NEVER called the 800# and have probably used about 10 of them. Most of them at "inelligible" rates. Never had a problem at any of the hotels. I have always just booked the best rate available online that I was qualified for and presented the certificate either at check-in or when I remembered that I had it (but always before the day of check out).

Anyone tried using BonusBucks together with the Marriott Elite Offers "2 for 1 weekend nights" certificates ?

Yes, but it requires three nights in order to work if they do it right: two nights are paid (so you can use the Bonus Bucks against those two nights) and the third night is the free one from the "two for one" offer. I've done that a couple times.

Once (early on) I had but a two-night reservation and tendered both a Bonus Bucks and the "2 for 1" nights certificate. The reception explained that I could use one or the other, but not both unless I had the third night (resulting in two paid nights).

Question about Bonus Bucks

Hi Folks,
I have a question about bonus bucks. How do they appear on the invoice. I would like to buy a couple of them off ebay but I would like to know if they show up as a discount on the rate or as a method of payment. Does MR award points on the full charge or on the charge after the Bonus Bucks were subtracted. I would appreciate any feedback from someone who used it

Cheers

The few times Ive used them they appeared on my final statement as 'Local Payment'. I received the Pts as if I paid with Cash, meaning you will earn the Pts and any bonus Pts based on the rate you were booked at regardless of the fact that you made part payment with the BBs. So if it the rate was $100 per night with no status you'll earn 200 x 10 = 2000 pts , youre Silver then its 200 x 12 = 2400 pts even though all you paid was $100 in the end (assuming no tax) I would venture to say if you can book a room for $50 per night that you would simply give the cert at checkin and not owe another Cent and still get 100 x 10 = 1000 Pts

The above was based on staying 2 nights at a Marriott/Renaissance/JW since there you can use a $100 BB, the other props one can use only a $50 BB.

If U are gonna bid at eBay decide before you start the max WITH S&H you are willing to pay. Ive seen cases where the bidding was close to $60 for a $100 BB, they simply could have walked away and bid on a different one or have gotten 3 or 4 for that same $$ with the same exp date. Ive also seen where when you click onto "calculate" for the S&H that its $10 so make sure you know teh S&H before bidding. sometimes the bidding will start at $15 but with the $10 s&h its really $25

I have seen the BB's and PP's(premium pounds)going for really high prices latley on Ebay-you have to be firm with your final price.
Alot of them are being offered by folks who have a lot of these and they are running it like a buisness-sometimes not an honest buisness.
If you put in a reasonable offer be prepared to get a "second chance"offer as some of these folks are using shills to up the price.
BBs and the like are credited like cash(or should be)and you get points and stay credit when using them.
