Kinglobjaw was including the 10 base points earned for being a Marriott Rewards member in the 13 points per dollar spent on the Marriott Visa.

Even better: you actually get 15, because you're automatically Silver when you get the card. 10 base, 2 Silver bonus, 3 Visa bonus.

Hi,

Any promotion currently running for a discounted silver elite status?

Thanks

Being comped status devaules the program for members who actually stay the nights and deserve the rewards.

I am a hotel snob, and I see and agree w/ both sides of the issue...

Giving out comps sucks to current platinums because it devalues the program and takes away benefits. I have over 130 nights so far this year and have a tough time getting an upgrade to a more spacious room and lately even getting on CL level because they are full... i'm sure if you back out all the comp'ed status guests I would get a better room most of the time.

On the other hand, comp'ed status is good for me. SPG comped me platinum, which is great when I stay in certain cities because the Marriotts there are not convenient as the Westins there. So I stay at the Westin and actually do get upgrades and other perks..

If I was a hotel executive, I would not comp platinum status or even issue challenges. Platinum status should be only for the elite, loyal customers and should be EARNED. If I got an upgraded room every time at any Marriott, I honestly wouldn't look anywhere else.
