Does "cheese room" = Concierge Lounge?

Which, at certain properties (i.e. Buffalo Marriott), could easily be called cheesy.

I emailed MR 3 times and just yesterday got someone to offer me the Gold Elite Challenge. I stayed 7 nights at Marriott since Aug 7, but it looks like they won't give me credit towards the 12 nights in 3 months needed for gold.

Not only because of "Mega" points offer but also because JW in Phuket seems much nicer than any other branded properties in Phuket (SPG, HH, PC), I would like to see if I can get status matched or get a challenge for Platinum. I am currently Royal Ambassador with PC/IC and Gold for both HH and SPG. With HH, I am soon to be Diamond by the end of this month. With SPG, I have 9 stays for this year.

So, with my RA status (about 40 nights so far), HH Diamond (28 stays +), and SPG Gold (9 stays) in 2007, do you think I should be able to ask MR for a challenge or status match to Platinum level?

Does anyone know which Hotel's will status match against Marriott ?? - and which are actually worth it...

Look back on post #15 in this thread. The link referenced there should start you down the path toward status matching for all the major hotel chain programs.

Now which one is worth it? I would suggest doing a search within each of the hotel chain's forum. (I might start with search terms like "marriott hilton starwood hyatt" or some subset of those hotel chains and maybe adding in terms like "best program".) There will be numerous threads in each comparing/contrasting their programs with the others. Since each program has its own strengths and weaknesses, the real answer to your question can really only by you and what you want in a hotel chain's rewards program.

I am faxing in my request for "Gold" Status Match to Marriott (801-468-4033) for anyone who needs the number. I was downgraded last year to Silver. :(

CS is not promising me anything because they "don't do status upgrades" will keep you advised.

Has anyone recently managed to get a gold challenge?

Yes they told me last week that as a silver with the Marriott premier visa I need 17 nights to get gold.

This registration is pending and your account will be upgraded to Gold Elite status in 24 to 48 hours. The dates of this offer are from August 1, 2010, to November 30, 2010. The Gold Elite level is set to automatically expire at the end of this time.

Once 12 paid nights post to your account during the trial dates, your Gold Elite level will be extended through February 2012. I apologize that bonus Elite nights from other activities or promotions do not count toward this special offer.

If the status is extended, a new membership card will be issued and should arrive within four to six weeks. You would then need to have at least 50 Elite nights post to your account in 2011 to renew this status for all of 2012.
