Unexpected gold upgrade

I am a lowly silver, with only 28 stays this year. I was surprised to notice online I seem to have been upgraded to a gold. I haven't had any letter or email about it. I haven't complained about anything. Is this a common occurrence, or is it just a mistake?
Cheers

28 stays? Were they all 1 night? You probably crossed 50 nights.

When I checked into the Liepzig Marriott last weekend they informed me that as a "present" they were upgrading me to Gold, 3 nights early, after 47 nights.

That's interesting, I didn't know they could do that. Maybe that's what happened here but they didn't tell me! Nevertheless, seems a bit early after only 28 nights for me. I am not complaining, looking forward to the upgrades and lounge access!

Looks like I got an early upgrade to gold as well. My profile is showing gold today with 41 nights stayed. I also have another 3 nights booked for this month. ^ ^

From Gold to Platinum

They do have some latitude. I reached 60 nights by December 31 last year but knew I had a almost all month booked for january. They gave me an extra month to qualify but I had to report back once I'd reached 70 nights and they did it manually
