Double Points promotion

I recently signed up for the double points promotion where you start getting double credit on the second stay. I have an expensive stay coming up in two weeks, but don't have plans to stay somewhere else before then.

Does anyone know if you can book a cheap night somewhere but not actually check in (in person) and still count as a stay? I'd be willing to pay for a night to capture credit for my longer stay later, but don't want to pay much since I don't actually need to stay over before then.

Thanks!

Do a search for the closest FI to your house. Find a cheap weekend rate, roll by there and check-in on a Sat. If you make sure that they offer Express Check-out, your work is done.

And where pray tell did you get this double points promotion? We all want in!

Probably a lot of not-too-expensive Marriott properties near you.See if you can get the breakfast+united cert=bonus buck for under a hundred on a weekend-that pays for itself.Or a RI stay would definatly qualify.
Then you will get the double points on the expensive stay.I did exactly the same thing.

She may be referring to the targeted Summer Promo (http://mrsummerpromo.netlinkrg.com/). Some of us received double points beginning at our second stay between June 15 and Sept 15. Others received 5K after every third stay - some automatically and some after calling MR Customer Service. And sadly, some people were ineligible.

If you have not signed up for the summer promo, try the link above.

The link didn't work for me

Just delete the closing parenthesis at the end of the link. :)

Look outside the box...not just the rate...

Instead of just looking for the cheapest rate...do a search with the Summer Promo codes and see if you can get a $50 or $100 bonus buck...then use the buck on your "extended" stay to get your $$ back...you may actually NET a profit.

I've stayed at Marriotts for as cheap as $79 and gotten the $100 bonus buck.

As was mentioned above, you can call MR and most likely get the 5K points deal. I did that and already got credited with the points, even though the CS rep on the phone hadn't really heard of the promo until I called her.
