Gouged in DC?

Greetings all,

Normally don't go to DC on business but I'll be there Sept. 18-23 (midweek) and having the darndest time finding a decent rate downtown. Company likes me to stay below $150 but will allow up to $200 in the tougher cities...yet I can't even find anything within that range. Got a VIP card and can't get that rate, either. Tried all the promo codes to no avail. Will be working at RFK Stadium and prefer not to rent a car if at all possible. Any suggestions?

I am assuming you'd like Metro access. But, I don't know if it goes to RFK stadium.

In any case, I did some searches and you are right, it is tough to find anything under $200 for that time period.

I did find one Marriot property that was around $170, but they're just over a mile from the nearest Metro station( and about 10 miles from RFK Stadium), which probably means a taxi from the hotel to the station, sorry.

There is a Metro stop at RFK stadium. You can pick a hotel in other spots of Maryland or Virginia that are near a Metro station to save some money. Anything in DC is going to be expensive

Does it need to be consecutive days?

You could do a day-by-day search using the P42 rate

CY Embassy Row ($139) and Wardman Park ($199) are both avail on specific days during the week. Probably get a day reserved, then call them directly to tack on add'l days at the same rate.

The rates you are seeing are what I deal with on every trip to DC. And the rates are even higher in the spring from Cherry Blossom time until the end of school trip season.

Marriott Key Bridge is one of my favourites due to location. It's only a short walk across the bridge to the restaurants in Georgetown.

The Metro stop is Stadium/Armory, which is on both the blue and orange lines.

Courtyard New Carrollton is 1 mile from the New Carrollton Metro station, on the orange line. It might be walkable, but I'm unsure; the hotel might also have a shuttle. $139 a night is what I'm seeing for your dates.

Yup...this is normal business for DC. To make matters worse, wait till you see your taxes on the bill. Northern Virginia isn't much better lately either. Any company that forces it's employees to $150 or lower in DC doesn't value their people's lives. This is one area where you pay for security, and even more for luxury. Spent 4 years working on The Hill...trust me...do not stay out past 8th St. towards RFK.

I have had success with Hotwire.

I was able to get a room at the Hilton near Dupont Circle for less than 100 USD.

What, if any, decisions have you made sfobound?

I was there for one night in May. I ended up at a non-chain hotel in Georgetown at a "special" AAA rate of $225. The Marriotts and many others were over $300. Some over $400. If you have to stay close to town, it's real tough to get a decent rate.

Thanks everyone!

Appreciate the advice. ^ ^

I got the VIP rate ($179) to pop at the RI DC/Capitol, which is at 333 E St. SW. Thanks for the Metro info, DenverBrian. ^ If anyone has tips/insight on that property, feel free.
