EEO Certificates / Coupons - CHRIS??

Ok, let me start by saying, I am not one to tow the line feel entitled. I am definitely not one to try and sneek by with codes etc.

So my question(s):

We have online offers (which I have used) B1G1Free Marriott/Renn Room and Food. We also received physical coupons and certificates.

Can I use them both (while still being honest)?
If not, can I in good consience give away the paper ones?

Anyone have experience on this? The terms online state that the Online certificate may only be used once, but doesn't address the paper.

Again, just wanting other opinions, since I generally don't know. Customer service and elite lines have been a mixed bag. (and I don't feel I can keep calling to get the answer I want...)

Chris? Anyone?

I counsel others not to use codes that they are not entitled to use; however, your question does not make me pause at all in advising you to use both.

Marriott must have known that you would essentially receive "double" the coupons by putting them online and by sending you out a booklet.

That they have not removed one or the other means to me that they are OK with your using both the online version -- that bears your name and MR # -- and the booklet form that does not. I see nothing wrong in using both.

I personally would refrain from using more than one copy of the online version, however, as I believe that that does go beyond what they had envisioned, but others are free to do as they please -- and I doubt Marriott would retaliate by docking them -- but you never know!

Use what your were provided in good conscience that you are doing nothing wrong.

While the the name and MR# appears on one (online certificate) and not the other (mailed coupon) I would venture to say they pick it up anyway.

My reasoning is that it's used in conjunction with a paid stay and unless the reservation is made without the MR# it is entered in the check-in record which includes the paid as well as free night.

Of course, doing that relegates one to being a regular, non-MR (non-elite) check-in, no qualifying night (Summer Promotion w/ double eff. stay #2 or 5000 points after each third stay; 2500 bonus points for Ren stays).

It also means (even if you're in a position to qualify for any bonuses, no points, no arrival gift for plats, no best available room upgrade etc. etc.

Having said that, I don't know for a certainty, but I would think the potential is there for a front desk person to check online (for repititive use when one of these "free night" coupons is proferred).

How they would track repetitive use of "buy-one/get-one-free entree is anyone's guess.

I just used the B1G1 coupon at the Marriott Boston Copley.. They note your MR account in their system that you have used your the one you are entitled to.. I did use the B1G1 feature at one of the hotel restaurants without problem.. Even though the day I checked in I was using points for that nite, I did receive my platinum arrival gift and due to the long wait at the check-in counter, they instructed me to make 2 choices on my arrival gift card.. Rooms have the new beds and bedding.. VERY NICE!!

At this time there is nothing to prevent you from using the online EEO's and the coupons that were sent by mail.

We are evalutating the effectiveness of the online EEO's, and are exploring the possibility of having members choose the method of delivery.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks,

Chris

Anyway, I could use my own on-line certificate for one stay and a paper one that I got from a friend -- as a gift! -- for another stay. Multiple uses by one person can be perfectly legitimate.

Hmmm.

I've been giving away the EEO's that I get in the mail (on Coupon Connection) and the certs specifically state that they are transferable as gifts. So I don't feel I'm breaking any T&C's here.

Are you telling me that I can get the same certs on-line, too? Well, if they have my name and MR number on them, I guess I would only take one down as I needed it personally.

But I don't think anyone's complaining about the paper ones I distribute. :) And no one's ever complained to me that they couldn't use it.

I have used a printout from a buddy. As I did not want to in good conscience use 2 online B1G1 certificates within 2 months of each other, so I had a friend print his out for one of my weekend stays, and I printed one out for the other. No problems at all.
