Different Rates for the Same Room??
 

I am going to Boston in this week on business for three days, and the Marriotts (along with most the SPG properties) are sold out due to conventions. I was able to use Platinum guarantee to secure a room, but Marriott is charging me their highest rate ($399/night) the first night. There are more rooms available the second night, so I was able to get my usual corporate rate ($209/night) for that night. Does anyone know how I can get Marriott to honor the lower rate for both nights? I am guessing it is up to hotel discretion, but I would appreciate some advice if anyone has been in a similar situation.

It is at their discretion so there is nothing I am aware of that you can do to "guarantee" the lower rate for all nights. I often times just tell them at checkin that my reservation should be at the _____ company rate. Many if not most will just change it instead of arguing.

Most chains charge the rack rate when a guest uses elite level guarantee. That's because they hotel has to deal with dishonoring another guest's reservation and placating them accordingly.

The best bet is to call the hotel directly and try to make a reservation with them. If you've ever stayed with them before you have a reasonable chance of getting a better rate. Good LUck.

Actually the hotels keep a number of rooms in reserve in anticipation of late platinum reservations. In most cases, they don't have to dishonor another reservation. That is why before I made platinum I would always check the morning of the day before check-in at hotels that were previously full to see if anything had opened up once the guarantee deadline had passed.
