Was there two years ago or so. Will be back in SGN on Wednesday.
IMHO the rooms are extremely tiny. The Club is ok but not as Extensive as elsewhere in the Asia.
Quite frankly I would rather stay somewhere else. The Park Hyatt is quite nice and far fancier property than the Renaissance.

Received an unsolicited E-mail from the Renaissance Saigon advising that by local law Vietnamese woman are not allowed to join a guest unless they can produce a marriage license - has anyone else received this type of notice?
Is it really enforced?

Any recent update?
Hi,
I was wondering if there are any recent update on this hotel especially
- providing Elite treatment
- cost from the airport to the hotel and back (I am thinking of pre-booking a ride on internet. Cost quoted at this moment is USD 10)
- touristy stuff around the hotel
- lounge atmosphere (F&B quality)
I did check out the reviews on TripAdvisor.. but these days even that is not always trustable.
Thanks in advance!

Stayed there last year. As a gold was upgraded and given lounge access which included breakfast and evening cocktails.
Fare from Airport to hotel at US$10 is OK............ by the way, you can use US$s everywhere (things haven't changed that much since I was stationed in Saigon 40+yrs ago!)
Just outside the hotel is the statue of Ghenkas Khan pointing his finger across the river (he had a part in building imperial city of Hue)........... from the river a few excursion boats available. A few blocks from the hotel is the re-named To-Do street, infamous for nightlife, back when, now just bars with WiFi!!
Lucky to catch a few gals wearing Ao Di's --- brought back memories

BKKLEE, is the lounge open on the weekends? I'm assuming yes since it's Asia. But if not, do they offer brekkie coupons & is it key accessible for sodas. Also, is there free wi-fi or are there i-net terminals? Let me know & I'll update the exec lounge sticky.
Cheers.

Sorry, I stayed during the week so can't tell you if lounge open on weekend. Was trying to get away from a tedious work schedule so likewise did not determine if WiFi was or was not available.

2011: Review update
Am currently at the hotel, my last night here aftter 3 wonderful night.
Location of the hotel is relatively close to all the sights and markets that you will visit here in HCM.
I was expecting the worst from the last few reviews here, but for me they were not as bad as described.
Check-in was ok, staff were friendly though no recognition of Elite status. Did get lounge access and asked check-out time.
I was given a corner room on the normal floor (my request for high floor and rollaway bed provided). View was a city view (though looking into another office building). I am ok with this (and in fact happy since the rooms facing the river is facing also a busy road and those facing the city, I think would also get some traffice noise --> honking here is common).
Executive lounge: Very good. Was only asked once for my room number. Breakfast selection is sufficient and seems to have rotation of selections from day to day. Pho and eggs are made to order.
Evening hor d'over/dinner: I only tried it once, very good selection, but lounge did get busy. Open bar with good selection.
Other times of the day: Good slection of fingerfood and snacks.
Room: Contrary to Flyer888's comment, I find the condition of the rooms acceptable. Much better than some of the properties in Europe. I think that they can still go on for another 2-3 years. Maybe it is my expectations.
Swimming pool: Rather small, good view of the city and riverside. Sauna and steamrooms are located in the mens changing room which is very small. I can imagine lots of body contact if the place is filled.
Overall, I am happy with the hotel. Location is good.
sidenote: From the airport, Vinasun offers the best price to the hotel, 7USD/150,000 Dong. Mailin Group wanted 200,000 dong. With the meter, it is only 120,000 Dong (my taxi had the meter running at the same time).
HCM sidenote: The city is full of people trying to take advantage of you. Worst at the side street sellers. After a while it just gets irrirtating. Such a pity that such nice people can turn to be such big jerks. I understand that it is poor country, but to cheat people like that left and right, day and night just gets up your nerve. Even in places like Thailand/Malaysia it is not as bad. I heard that in Hanoi it is not as bad.. that has to been seen.
Cheers!
