Canceling after 6pm
I had a good experience today. Around 9 pm, I realized that I inadvertently had a reservation that I forgot to cancel, and was in fact about to check into a different Marriott. I called the Gold desk, and was transfered to customer relations. A wonderful woman asked me the reason, and then put me on hold while she called the property. She then came back and it was all taken care of with no penalties.
Is this common practice? albatross |
Common......no.
On occasion I've had to beg.... but I do find that if you are staying at another Marriott for the night in question, they usually cancel the erroneous room without penalty. |
I've called after six on a couple of occasions and was told it was no problem. I think if you are a long time customer, it makes a big difference.
Also, I've arrived at a hotel after six that I thought I was booked at, and if they have a room they will call over to the other Marriott and cancel the reservation. I have found that the service at Marriott is usually very good. |
I've had good luck cancelling reservations after 6--90% or so have been a result of flight cancellations. The only one I recall that stuck me was the LaGuardia Marriott. (never stayed there since)

obviously it is at the discretion of the front desk supervisor at each individual properties.
Over here in the UK Marriott's cancellation policy is 4pm. So count yourself lucky u got until 6PM in the states!! Happy Easter! |
Twice I have had to cancel after 6PM and to date I have not had any issues doing so nor I have suffered any consequences finacially.

As a PP I have never had a problem canceling after 6, and it happens at least 2-3 times a month for me. Last week I neglected to call before a flight and was not able to cancel until 1 a.m. - no problem.

On a somewhat similar note, I had to do a last-minute cancel and the VERY helpful Marriott person on the gold line suggested I not *cancel* the reservation but *change* it, with no penalty, for a new arrival date 2 days later (same departure date). Then, the next day, to call and cancel.
Worked like a charm. Thanks, Marriott! |
Recently had a trip to SF cancelled, but simply forgot to cancel my 2-night stay at the SF Marriott. Didn't realize it 'till a few days later. I called main reservations and was transferred to customer service. A very nice woman determined that my credit card had not been charged and said that if a charge appeared later, I should call back for a one-time courtesy waiver of their penalty policy, even though I had absolutely no good excuse for not cancelling. This saved me big bucks out of my own pocket. Kudos to Marriott.

I've had to change properties a couple of times after 6PM - usually due to travel delays. I've never had a problem with Marriott canceling my original reservation. (Granted, I was staying in another Marriott, which I'm sure had a lot to do with it.)

That was a close one!
Had a reservation that they were not going to let me cancel (Believe it or not I was only one hour late in cancelling - for the 3 day before arrival).
Spoke to Reservations, Property Directly, and finally a MR Gold agent. While on hold with the last one, stumbled across this thread. Asked if I could "Modify" the reservation *wink wink* and was able to do that without the cancellation fee. Appearantly this agent wasn't aware of that loophole in the system. Thank goodness for bugs and Flyertalk! |
