Beach at Kauai
I have been told that there is a problem with the beach at the Kauai Marroitt and they are taking guests by bus to another beach. Can anyone comment ?
Thanks. |

Actually the link above doesn't go to the article which I believe the poster intended it to go to, as the article on Business 1 changes from day to day. Yesterday's Business 1 article is now archived here. Now if the contents of that linked web page doesn't change then it should take you to the correct article.
To summarize: Heavy rain sends sewage from a break in a main sewer line into Kalapaki Bay, beach closed. Yes the Kauai Marriott Resort & Beach Club is on Kalapaki Bay so their beach would be closed. FWIW, I stayed at this property a few years back. While the grounds of this property are beautiful, the pool is the largest, the restaurant and services OK to good, the rooms at this hotel are very mediocre and dated, and I did not used the beach or go into the water as neither were appealing. Now, I scuba dive and love beaches and frequent many throughout the world so it is not like I don't do beaches. There was just something about it, like it wasn't clear, it wasn't turquoise, and there was an industrial feel to it. BTW, the stunning courtyard at this hotel brings a entirely new meaning to the term "Marriott Courtyard". |

You're welcome. Most news sites have unique links to articles, however this being a "small town" so-to-speak Kauai newspaper, I don't think they do. I would not be surprised if the link I provided also changed to another article at some point. BTW, I live in Fairfax and was up in Rockville day before yesterday.

Thanks for the info and the link.
Going there next week, so, not too pleased. :( |
They should have the sewer line repaired by then and it does not take long for the ocean to wash that stuff out to sea and/or the fish and other sea critters to devour it. What is one creature's waste is another's food or tool. After all you are planning on lying on Parrott Fish poop (aka sand). Parrott Fish gnash on coral and poop sand.
I would guess that the water should be fine by then. Either way you should have a nice time in Kauai and their pool is very nice. |

Sure it is! I scuba dive and anytime a vacation involves Parrott Fish, or their byproduct, is great IMO. :D

They had a similar problem when I stayed there last May and it was resolved in just a few days. IMO, since it's a "sheltered" beach (i.e., you're not actually oceanfront like at the Hyatt or Sheraton, as examples) it didn't bother me to spend time at the pool rather than the beach at this property. However, as others have mentioned, the pool area & courtyard area are great and I really enjoy staying at this property.

Without knowing anything about the present cissumstances, because the beach is sheltered you really can swim. Maybe even body surf a bit. It isn't Florida and swimmable beaches are not everywhere. Its a great pool, but we had pools in Kansas. There wasn't an ocean.

I was in Kauai last week and heard nothing of the problem. I would not worry, there are nice beaches all over the place.
