Marriott StreamSide in Vail

Has anyone stayed at any of the Marriott StreamSide properties in Vail? I stayed in the Vacation Club in Breck last year, and it was really wonderful, but sadly they are full this year, and the regular Marriott in Vail is far too expensive ($300+) so we decided on this instead.

Any information would be much appreciated!

I have visited this property a couple years ago when I was staying at the Vail Marriott Mountain Resort and Spa. Hopefully you will have accommodations in the Evergreen building as that is the newest and nicest. Accommodations are basic, no gourmet kitchens, no fantastic bathrooms. I would compare these accommodations with the Whistler RI where I just stayed for a week; although there is no breakfast include and no shops (ski rental, ski valet or otherwise) on site or nearby for that matter. Same goes for restaurants, there are none nearby. It is located a mile or 2 from Lionshead Village and they have regular shuttle service to Lionshead where there are restaurants or where you can connect with the Vail Village shuttle to Vail Village. This property does have a pool and I believe a hot tub in a separate building.

All-in-all I found the property a bit shoddy and not at all convenient. As you well know everything is expensive in Vail. The Marriott, while expensive has all the right stuff. 200 meters from the lift, ski valet, ski shop, indoor and outdoor pools, 3 hot tubs (2 out, 1 in), a wonderful spa onsite, the Village shuttle stops right in front of the Marriott. While rates for the Marriott run around $379-419/night plus 11.84% tax you can get packages for a bit less. Packages are not usually available between Mid-February and the end of March. The only week where I could find packages available were the week of Feb 5-12 for $555 plus 11.84% tax. Last fall you could find a ski package rate of $455 plus 11.84% tax for January dates. These packages include lift tickets for 2 and breakfast.

Unfortunately planning this late in the ski season at Vail means that only the higher priced accommodations remain. Now sometimes, you can do last minute trips in early January and find really good deals, but for peak ski season periods of February and March you will be paying top dollar. I go to Vail every year, except this one we went to Whistler-Blackcomb. I will be back at Vail this coming year and will book ski packages at Vail for 2 weeks during the first 2-3 weeks of January - depending on rates as Jan 1 is a Sunday next year. I went there last year for 3 weeks from Dec 28-Jan 18 at a rate of $105/night, booked through Marriott's web site, a huge mistake on somebody's part but Marriott honored the rate. To check on Ski packages go to Marriott's web site and check the "Corporate/promotional" box and enter "PKG" as the code. Check the packages carefully as SPA, romance, etc. packages will also come up. These usually become available for January sometime in the late Summer to Fall time frame.

Now with all that said, I am not aware of your particular situation so what is good for me may not be good for you. I am single with a good amount of disposable income that I devote to Skiing and Scuba diving trips. When I was in my 20s and 30s I did motels, hostiles, etc. renting cars and lugging skis to/from resorts. Now, one of my criteria is not to rent a car, and to be ski-in/ski-out or close to it. I have skied numerous resorts in Colorado, Utah, Canada, and Europe, and IMHO it doesn't get much better than Vail for skiing and the Vail Marriott Mountain Resort and Spa for convenience and affordable (relative to Vail standards) accommodations. Also you get cookies and cider/hot chocolate every afternoon in the lobby!

Oh FWIW, I also go in January because the prices are more affordable and there are fewer crowds. I will not go during a holiday week again like I did last year.

I have not stayed there, but walked around the property many years back - it seemed shoddy then, so if there have been no improvements... Biggest thing is inconvenient, out-of-the-way location. If not too outrageous, really prefer the Lionshead Marriott - great location & property - be sure & get a mountain-view room!

I would agree with this statement if you do not intend to ski. If however, you will be skiing you will get plenty of mountain views thorughout the day and the extra dollars for MV is not worth it as it is overkill IMO.

Thanks for that perspective, AAUpgrade. After reading that, I had another look at the rates on offer and decided that the Vail Marriott was worth the extra $100 to have the makings of a really wonderful weekend. There's no point in flying 6k miles, then skimping on accomodation, now is there? :)

Thanks!

Your welcome. I neglected to notice your location. Even more of a reason to stay there as the exchange rate is definitely in your favor.
