Upgrade questions
 

I do not travel much but have Silver Elite with Marriott due to signing up for their credit card. Will this get me an upgrade when staying at their locations? Also, will they offer the upgrade of do I need to ask? Is there a proper etiquette to this? Last question - I have a free night coupon from the credit card. Is there any chance to get an upgrade when I use this? Just a few questions from an infrequent traveler. Thanks for the help.

Marriott does not seem big on upgrades, but on the plus side they always seem to have really nice rooms, so I don't much care. :) I am a Silver and have never been upgraded, though on occasion they give me a Platinum amenity (cookies and water), which is always appreciated.

I've been Silver Elite for years and never got an upgrade. I just got my Gold Elite card in the mail yesterday(good thru 02/06) so I'll see how I do this year!

I am silver,also earned this last year on a CC offer-but qualified again for this year.
I have stayed 6 times last year with various Marriott properties,and I have received an "upgrade"of some type every single stay.Now granted none of these have been an upgrade to a suite,bit usually a higher floor,better view,club level etc..
Since I always stay at some bargain rate(usually thanks to this board)I feel this is just great-and I have reduced my priceline stays as a result.
And yes,I do ask-very nicely at the desk.
