Does Marriott Comp Status?
DJ Iceman has convinced me to give Marriott a try as my third hotel chain instead of hilton, and I was wondering if they comp status? I am platinum SPG, and Diamond Hyatt....any help/advice on how to get comped would be appreciated.

Call the service center at SLC --- they'll either do it over the phone or ask you to fax/mail in the documentation. You existing plat/diamond status will go a long way. Good luck --- should be a slam-dunk. |
Good Luck. We tried last year with Hilton Diamond status and well over 100 stays a year. Faxed everything but Mariot said no even though MrMoreMilesPlease had been staying at a Marriot for 10 nights by then.
Marriot lost six months worth of stays since he negotiated to move to the Hilton chain and the company agreed. |
If you do get a comp upgrade to Platinum, how long does that last - till this December or later? The duration would certainly entice or discourage me from asking for a comp. Cuz I read over at the *wood threads that if one is comp upgrade to Platinum, it lasts till Feb 2006! Isn't that gr8! Wonder how Marriott's are. Anyone knows? Tks :D

I got comped Plat and did not have to show any proof, just a call. This lasted until the end of 2003. I stayed one entire night with the chain for different reasons. This year I was dropped to Gold because I did not reach the Plat level.

I asked for this today. I am a real silver with Marriott and Plat with competitors. I stay in hotels in excess of 200 nights a year. According to Melanie C Green at Marriott Rewards, they would not honor my status. In simple numbers it's a mistake that will cost Marriott in lost sales in excess of $25,000 a year for at least the next few years. This just compounds the reasons I dont stay at Marriott properties any more. This last weekend I stayed at the Marriott Waikoloa on the big island and I had never been more dissapointed with the service and room for a 'category 6' hotel.

If you had such a disappointing stay at a cat 6 property why do you want to stay in the program, let alone request a comp to plat? Good decision MR!! |
My decision to go without Marriott has been a very recent development. I am a Real Silver member because I stayed in a Marriott for 2 months (weekdays) while I was in Dallas. Sometimes it is much more convenient for me to stay at a Marriott. For example; I am working across the street from a Marriott property (Courtyard in Pasadena California) for the next 7 months. Instead I am staying 20 minutes away at the Sheraton Universal solely because I have much better status here (initially). So naturally I thought about moving to the Courtyard if I could enjoy the same amenities. Marriott knows from experiences I have had with them that I tend to stay for long periods of time (like when I stayed for 2 months). I obviously spend a lot of money traveling. Certainly the ROI is there.
At the end of they day it's about how satisfied I am with my experience. Being on the road non-stop for 47 weeks a year is rough. I try to make it as pleasant as possible. |
