New York Marriott Eastside
Did a quick search and the info on this was on courtyard or the bad food back in 2000.
Anyone stayed there recently. I have to stay there for a week, so curious how things will be. I don't have a choice on where to stay, so any advice on the hotel, the area etc.. |
Stayed there 2002
Hey Savage, MN
I don't know if it helps much but I stayed there in 2002. I did not eat there. Too many other good places in the area. Place reminded me of old style (not necessarily bad) New York Hotel. Nothing fancy, basic, clean rooms, OK staff. I would stay there again. |
I've stayed there a few times over the years. The hotel is the old Halloran House which was the older Shelton. The location, IMO, is super as it is in Midtown but away from the Times Square touristy stuff.
The rooms are generally smallish, but I once got upgraded to a corner room on an upper floor that was great. The room decor is Pottery Barn-esque if you like that sort of thing. If you value quiet above a view, try to get an interior room to avoid the considerable amount of street noise. The age of the building shows with the elevators that clank and groan and the absence of in-room coffee service because they claim that the electrical service can't handle it. |
I've stayed there a few times, once was a week over Christmas with my family. We really enjoy the hotel. It is an older hotel, but that just adds to the charm. The staff, espeically up in the lounge, were great, and the location is excellent. Short walk to many fun locations, lots of places to eat, etc. We had breakfast in the hotel and it was above averge, but did tend to be pricey (typical I'm sure for most NY hotels).
You should enjoy the stay very much. Bruce |
I can't speak to the rooms but, the location is generally convenient and quite close to a huge variety of restaurants, shopping, etc. Personally, I don't like Times Square and wouldn't want to stay there unless I were visiting quickly for business and my appointment was within a block or so of the hotel.

I stayed at the New York Marriott Eastside 6 weeks ago. I would recommend this hotel for the following reasons:
1. Very good location - walkable to almost everything. Not as good as Marquis or Rhiga - but not far behind on the location scale. 2. My room was very nice and the bed had been upgraded. 3. The bar was small but the "double" scotch was more like a triple - and a half... 4. The concierge remembered everyone by name - even after only 1 night. 5. The concierge lounge per se wasn't my favourite - or even close- but the food offerings were excellent. |
Stayed here back in March. I posted photos of the room and my comments on HotelScoop: http://www.hotelscoop.com/hotelDetai...p?Hotelid=5185
Check it out. |
I stay there at least once a month for several nights each time. I agree with all the comments about location, age of building, street noise, etc. The staff are quite nice. The health club is pretty good too and is open 24 hours. The concierge floor lounge staff are really nice, but the television is always turned on and is always too loud. Food is good, however. If you request 2 double beds instead of a king, you will probably get a larger sized room. Corner rooms are larger, but street noise will be a problem if you are a light sleeper. You can request a coffee maker in your room (they don't automatically provide it due to the old wiring, but they will give you one on request).
Hope you enjoy your stay! |
