Who's in charge here??
"...and the new owner did not retain Marriott as the manager of the hotel (it's now franchised)."
The above is the operative phrase contained in a post by Socrates regarding an issue as to an FTer's problem getting their Bonus Bucks. I don't believe in quoting out of context, so here's the entire post: "Bruce, Your post lists a several concerning issues for me.....I would ask you to contact Marriott customer service (either calling or using the internet page on marriott.com) and repeat the above post for them. Soc PS You are correct the BB's are to be given at checkin...I don't see why they would repeatedly push you on such a non-issue as giving them to you, afterall how did they expect you to use express checkout?....unfortunately Host sold this hotel within the past 12 months and the new owner did not retain Marriott as the manager of the hotel (it's now franchised)" Now I'm curious -- are some/many of the inconsistencies discussed in this Forum due to decisions/practices on the part of franchises using the Marriott flag but that are not managed by Marriott and therefore under less stringent (or virtually no) meaningful control by them? |
If they fly the Marriott flag, I expect and demand the same service level from hotels managed by Marriott.

"Who ya gonna call"???  "GHOST BUSTER'S" |
Let me clarify my reasons for the above quoted post.....Franchise & Managed hotels are held to the same standards....we view franchisees as business partners (which is exactly what they are)...together we approve standards for our different brands and the consequences that will result in the failure to comply by the standards....all GM's & their teams (managed and franchised) have a section on their annual review/bonus program that includes "guest satisfaction" so I can assure you all Marriott flag'd hotels have a stake in providing Marriott quality stays
Now the reason I asked Bruce to contact customer service is quite often the new management will have a different management style than the former team did and sometimes the hourly employees (who typically remain) will mistakenly infur the new management to mean something other than they really did....so by contacting customer service two things happen 1) the GM is issued an alert regarding the issue inorder to correct the situation 2) if the problem is the management team then it is documented with some teeth and repeated guest complains will be viewed as an issue by both Marriott Corp and the Franchisee's corporate team FYI...this has all been discussed in the past I can see you're a new member here and FT and I want to be one of the first to welcome you..... |
Socrates -
Thanks for the welcome and heads-up. Before registering I took a "spin" through this Forum and it was obvious (and wholly justified) why you're held in such high regard by participants in it. And BTW, I've been a Marriott fan since way back in 1980 - ran across my old (and somewhat bent) Club Marquis luggage tags buried in a desk drawer a couple of weeks ago. It was that same year that a young Marriott employee in the original Marina Del Ray hotel (called a "Marriott Inn") went so above and beyond what would be expected that I wrote a letter to Mr. M praising him and got a most gracious response). There have been some dips in the road to be sure, but far more often than not Marriott lodgings and the people who staff them meet or exceed expectations. So, I'm new here, and have found this board among the most illumninating online travel forums I've run across. And your posts, which I always make a point of reading, (I wish you hadn't deleted so many before I got here), have much to do with making me feel that way. -Rah |

We are to ask nothing of Marriott. If they happen to follow policy, we are to be grateful! If they change there policies and they are worse, we are to accept it with gladness. If Marriott continues to decline compared to other programs, we are to not notice, but be happy in all things Marriott. Marriott is Good. Frequent Travelers are bad. Ask for nothing, expect nothing and be happy nah be greatful. Thus is the way to enlightment in the world of FT Marriott. |

Where can I sign up for the brainwashing?
Agree 100%. ^ ^ Unfortunately, this is the way to happiness with the rewards program.
BTW, I see nothing in this thread that would justify a moderator. If criticizing marriott is a violation of the TOS of FT then it is news to me. End of rant.
