I think the odds of all LT Golds Worldwide boycotting MAR/SPG properties due to a limited promotion in China that probably won't crowd exec lounges much is slim to none.

Cheers.

BMW and Marriott reach some sort of promotional agreement ... so what? Who knows how long it will last?
Really? Did you means if Marriot treat an average Joe who drive Mercedes more better than a loyal lifetime member from now on is normal and none of our business?

Oh puhleeze. It's a promotion that sounds good on paper & won't really have much effect at all on the exec lounges. Just like other MAR/SPG promos. It also may not be repeated. Not all promos are set in place forever.

BTW - (devil's advocate) - that 'average Joe driving a Mercedes' might indeed be worth more than the 'average Joe'. But odds are the AJWAM might be at St.R or RC vs. JW or MAR, so think your outrage overall is a bit misplaced.

Cheers.

Interesting. BMW nor any dealers I bought a BMW from has reached out to me about this - I don't need it as LTP anyway. But from a business perspective it makes sense especially as Marriott got hit earlier this year by having listed Taiwan as a separate country. Their website in China was blocked for a full week. I don't think this will clog stuff up too much.

I wonder how the number of BMWs in China will compare to the number of people with the special comped Gold status that includes lounge access in China. Any bets?

My opinion is this is much ado about nothing. Given the population of China & the # of BMWs (not that many; about 400K yearly sale) & how many of those stay at MAR (or would), this is a promo. It's not really going to impact lounge access. IMO it's a nice way for both companies to promote something that will cost either very little but sounds good on paper/press release.

Cheers.

BMW

China auto sales statistics for BMW only include the models that are locally produced in China through the BMW-Brilliance Joint Venture with local manufacturing partner Brilliance Auto and excludes import models. With total BMW brand sales (including imports) of 425.765 units in 2014, the three locally produced models account for about two thirds of this figure. BMW started production of the 2-Series Active Tourer MPV in China in 2016, followed by a front-wheel drive compact sedan 1-Series in 2017 and the X3 midsized SUV, which will increase local production capacity to 400.000 annual units.

Ooops! There were nice tables when I pasted it but then FT turned them into very hard to read mumble jumble stuff...

For the first time in 2 years BMW trails Mercedes and Audi in China Market...

So BMW needs that promo.

BMW is hurting in China because of lack of new models... The new 5 looks like the old 5 too. Mercedes has launched the new extended E Class and other more localized products. Like Ford, BMW in trouble if it can't come up will new models soon.

They need deals like this tie in w Marriott. But again, I have not been called so I doubt this will cause a major uptick in lounger overflows. As of not just not being pushed have.

And since BMWers here are 2-3 times more the price than in US the promo makes sense for Marriott to attract a wealthy consumer have just starting to be loyal to hotel chains.

Instead of all boycotts mentioned in this thread simply due to a promotion limited to mainland China(funny), urge new similar worldwide promotions for solid business reason which offer access to the lounge as remedy for Gold is actually what you may need.

On top of that, I suspect many BMW-driving Marriott guests in China are already paying for rooms with lounge access.

I still have not been called or made aware of promo so i highly doubt lounges will be overrun.

I've never understood lifetime status. That shouldn't be a thing.

Bye!

(What I can't understand is why I am not upgraded every time I check into a hotel. After all everyone else is boycotting!)
