Marriott Bonvoy Hotels in McMurdo Station Antarctica

Good grief! Is there a Marriott property set to be established at the McMurdo station in Antarctica?

Rooms can't be booked but there's a website for both the Empower and RI Empower (Residences) with, what I assume, are nothing more than stock room images rather than photos of an actual Antarctic room. Upon checking random dates, a message pops up that says something about 'training' hence rooms are un-bookable.

Yet, in realistic terms, this seems quite the niche. Sure, the McMurdo station is a thriving scientific and meteorological Antarctic hub but I wouldn't have thought it worth founding a Marriott hotel there, even if it is on 'Main St'. Very few tourists, if any at all, except the odd visitor here and there usually working on other projects. And I would have thought most folk would stay for extended periods of time.

I'm glad to see the hotel pool is indoors.

It lists nearby golf courses, but they're actually near Chesterfield Michigan.

If you like staying at McMurdo Station, Antarctica, consider getting into the timeshare program.

Also, if you're traveling all the way to McMurdo Station, Antarctica, you might as well spend a few days at Casey Station too.

There was an Empower Sheraton in Hawaii reportedly appearing on the Marriott website, but no rooms were available on the selected dates.

It sounds like the website developers responsible for the merger are having some fun.

Wow! The pics look great. Palm trees. Sail boats. Booking today.

Although the upcoming weather-from the Marriott website-is making me skeptical.

The photos! This property looks amazing...booking flights right now.

The Casey station looks too bland and suburban for my tastes. I mean, who wants to go that far and have your main dinner choice be a Chipotle in a stripmall? Definitely going MVCI on this one.

I changed my mind - "This hotel does not provide shuttle service."

Still, I'm impressed by how many times I had to zoom out on the Maps page to get something other than white space.

Any hotel name that says Empower is a fake hotel listing being used for test purposes. Why it's visible to us it the only real question. Is it accidental or is it on purpose (and which would be worse)?

I'm mildly disappointed in the lack of copywriter involvement in these 3 pages. The devs are having fun, why not the writers? I want to see an overview and a list of amenities for each property, for starters.

"Empower" is their marketing department's new millennial-targeted ad campaign. I was using someone else's computer the other day (no .......) and saw a Marriott credit card advert with "Empowering" written in the same crappy front that's infested the Fisher-Price'd Marriott website

Funny. "Empower" is such a 90s era corporate buzzword. Straight out of the "change management" consultant's Lotus Notes database of reusable slideware.

Hopefully "Empower" isn't the new "World of Marriott Starwood" program name....

Well your answers have certainly made my day, thanks folks!

Wonder if the pool is outdoors or indoors...
