Period for 2017 Marriott Rewards (MR) Elite Qualification Nights:
01 January 2017 - 31 December 2017
Equation for Rollover Nights [2018 Version]:
[2017 MR Total Nights] - [2017 MR Elite Qualification Nights] - [2017 Rollover Nights] = [2018 Rollover Nights]
Example: Result:
113 [2017 Marriott Rewards (MR) Total Nights] - 75 [2017 MR Elite Qualification Nights] - 29 [2017 Rollover Nights] = 9 [2018 Rollover Nights]
01 January 2017 - 31 December 2017
Equation for Rollover Nights [2018 Version]:
[2017 MR Total Nights] - [2017 MR Elite Qualification Nights] - [2017 Rollover Nights] = [2018 Rollover Nights]
Example:
- 2017 MR Total Nights: 113
- 2017 MR Elite Qualification Nights (Platinum): 75
- 2017 Rollover Nights: 29
113 [2017 Marriott Rewards (MR) Total Nights] - 75 [2017 MR Elite Qualification Nights] - 29 [2017 Rollover Nights] = 9 [2018 Rollover Nights]

I concur with the others, didn't know how much I would miss this benefit until I received it for first time. With 50 plus rollover nights, 15 nights yet to come on the Chase card, and blocked from first 2018 Mega Bonus, focusing on keeping Hilton Diamond for 2019 rather than worry about lifetime building with 2018 Marriott stays.

I logged into Marriott.com this morning to discover (1) 93 nights from 2017 rolled over to 2018 and (2) that I'm now platinum-premier. The Marriott mobile application also confirms both.

This is just an update to catch up with everything that's happened since the start of the year. Ie, they just "flipped the switch" to show current status as opposed to yesterday they were still showing end-of-2017 status.
Everyone's credit card, OTOH, is on a different cycle, depending on when the credit card itself has the anniversary (and annual fee due). Yes, my personal credit card cycles in January too, but that's just a coincidence that it's in the same month as the annual mid-January status display update.

89 rolled over for me, made lifetime and platinum premier for the first time. Just wondering if they are awarding more this year of the PP? Maybe the start of the much rumoured higher tier level with actual benefits?

I don’t recall rollovers contributing to LTS, yet a) I could be forgetting, and b) matters not as I am already there...

115 nights in 2017, got Platinum 2018 and 20 rollover nights. Credit card nights have not yet posted.
So is it half your total rollover nights that get posted for 2018? Anyone know the exact calculation Marriott is using?

The formula is posted at the top of this wiki thread. Likely you had rollover nights from 2016 that rolled into 2017, and those were (and always have been) backed out prior to arriving at your 2017 tally rolling into 2018. I'd bet you had 20 rollover nights starting 2017 - there's no "halving" type of calculus going on in the background.

That means you had 20 rollover nights into 2017 (from 2016) as well. Nights will not roll over twice, so the calculation for the current year's rollover is (Total Nights) - (Rollover Last Year) - (Nights Needed for Status) = 115 - 20 - 75 = 20.

Sadly, mine have yet to show up.
Oops, also possible that I had some nights into 2017.

BTW, with rollover nights posting I just made LT Plat. I'm stoked that I can rely on platinum benefits without worrying about the annual status chase.
