MOXY hotels (in Germany) [Master Thread]

There are already three MOXY hotels in Frankfurt: one near the airport (terminal 2), one on the east side of Frankfurt, and one to the north west (Eschborn). All three hotels are moderately priced (56-77€ when I checked while the Marriott was at over 100€). Since I needed one more night to obtain a category 5 free night certificate, I decided to try one out.

All three hotels are a bit of a walk (1-2 km) from the nearest S-Bahn station (even though the one on the east side can be reached by tram, which doesn't run frequently at night though).

Since I would be arriving after midnight I decided to call one of the hotels to make sure the reception is available 24/7. On the phone they ask you whether you'd like to continue in English or in German. I chose German and was given a list of options in German, but spoken by a non-German with a very strong accent. When I was finally connected to one of their "crew" (as opposed to the "captain", otherwise known as General Manager) it became clear that this was clearly part of the marketing. No German was spoken.

The good news: the reception is available 24/7, and -- seemingly more improtant -- their bar is also open 24/7.

I picked the cheapest alternative among the three hotels (Eschborn, a different one from the one I've called) and it was as expected: the "crew" manning the reception and bar would not speak any German. Neither did the "crew" in the morning when I was checking out.

The hotel chain is designed to attract the young crowd. On the TV they a had a promotional video running encouraging their guest to ignore rules and have a lot of fun. Think "disco" including "finding the right one". Friday night was very "slow", so I wasn't disturbed in any way.

The room itself was quite basic: one chair to sit in, one "cube" to sit on, small glass surface mounted to the wall that could double as a (very) small desk. Large TV.

No amenities in the bathroom besides toilet paper, large, small and floor towels, large dispensers for shampoo doubling as body soap, conditioner and hand soap and two plastic cups. I think there was a hair dryer as well.

The bed is comfortable enough, even though the two pillows both were identical and felt a bit "artificial" (elastic plastic filling).

Marriott Gold members are rewarded with a free drink coupon. All guests are offered a free rum-based "welcome drink" when checking in.

All in all it felt like a mix of a youth hostel and a budget hotel. I may be too old for the concept, but if the price is right the value is not bad.

HTB.

I broke my Moxy duck this year, first in Ludwigshafen and the next night in Frankfurt airport.

The former is near a railway station or a 15 minute walk from the central station. At check in I was given a couple of casino chips, which can be exchanged at the bar for a free drink. The room was as described in the first post and was perfectly acceptable for the price and duration I was there. Breakfast was self-serve from a good selection of fruit, cereals, breads and eggs/bacon for warm food. Even as a PP, I was charged for breakfast. Not sure when this property opened, but I reckon I was the first to stay in my particular room - everything just looked and smelled brand new.

The airport Moxy is about 20 minutes by foot from the airport and involves crossing a couple of busy roads, one of which has no obvious pedestrian crossing. Also, the road to the Moxy has a lot of building going on at the moment, so you have to cross the road just before the hotel and then re-cross as the pavement is closed. You can also pay 5 EUR for a shuttle. Tip: always book this in advance as it is a small van with I think 6-7 seats and fills up at peak times. I used it on the return to the airport. Room, hotel decor and breakfast were identical to the other Moxy, except I wasn't charged for breakfast at the latter. Also got a welcome token for a beer, but only one this time.

Didn't try the gym at either property, but it looked like it had the basics of a running machine, stepper, cross trainer and some weights.

Would happily stay at either again or indeed another Moxy. Was going to stay at the one in Malpensa last week, but went to the AC in the city instead.

I LOVED the Moxy concept (and I'm far from being a millennial, lol). The one at Malpensa was an easy 5 minute walk from Terminal 2 and I only paid about 50 Euros for one night. As stated above, the bar was open 24/7 and they had some light meal options for dinner. The staff was on the younger side and very friendly. The Captain even gave me a free espresso as I was leaving. I'd definitely stay at more Moxy hotels in the future.
