So "anything for security" is OK, regardless of the inconvenience and impact on privacy and individual liberty?

Getting back on track (unless folk want this to go to Omni PR territory ;))

It would be good to know if this is specific only to the JW & Sheraton Park Lane or all MAR/SPG properties in London. Would also be good to know how long it's going to last, although I doubt they'd say.

Cheers.

What added security? It's in the main just additional security theater, with measures that do little of nothing for interdicting real security threats. The security show is there to make customers feel that things are safer than they would otherwise be.

Would I avoid this hotel because of this? Not really. Would I find the checks to be ridiculous from a security perspective? Yes. Would I find the checks to be of some benefit to the hotel? Perhaps, yes, as part of trying to soothe the nerves of otherwise flighty/fleeing customers.

It wasn't at all Marriott/SPG properties in the U.K on this past Saturday.

And when something does happen, do you think the lack of security will just be overlooked by the media and the public? Use your liberty and go stay at another place that does not search you then. If it was my hotel, and you refused the security check, I'll tell you to take a hike.

Increased security at County Hall when I checked out on Sept 16th.

I wasn’t going to check out because of it, I just found it to be a bit ridiculous—and insulting in a way, as the goons manning the door were both clueless (“that’s the snap on my jacket sleeve, not a hidden shank”) and incapable of remembering the same faces they saw over and over.

To the extent terrorists decide to attack a hotel some guys at the door with wands ain’t going to stop it.

They were gone this morning. I think this may have actually had to do with particular guests and not any general heightened threat in London, despite the official line.
