Fall 2017 MegaBonus Terms and Conditions
*A 'stay' is defined as consecutive nights spent at the same hotel, regardless of check-in/check-out activity. [Although the T&Cs don't say it clearly, a stay can be as short as one night.]
Registration is required.
Marriott Rewards members who register for this promotion by November 30, 2017 will earn one (1) free night award at a category 1-5 hotel (value of standard free night award ranges from 7,500 points for Category 1 hotels to 25,000 points for Category 5 hotels) after two paid stays* made between September 12, 2017 and January 15, 2018, at participating Marriott properties.
If a member completes two qualifying stays during the promotional period, an additional offer may be unlocked and become available in the members account within 2-3 days after the second qualifying stay.
The member may not receive additional notification except through their online member account and must register for the additional offer within two (2) weeks from the date the additional offer becomes available.
Maximum one (1) free night award earned with this promotion per member to be redeemed for a future stay at participating Marriott Rewards category 1-5 properties.
Free night award will expire six (6) months after the date of issuance.
An earned free night award is good for one (1) single or double occupancy standard room only and includes the cost of the hotel room and applicable room taxes only.
An earned free night award will be added to the members account within 3-5 business days after the second qualifying stay.
The awarded free night certificate is not transferable and may not be given as a gift.
Nights spent while redeeming an award are not eligible for credit and Marriott Vacation Club owner-occupied weeks are not eligible for credit.
Stays at ExecuStay and Marriott Executive Apartments are not eligible for credit toward this promotion.
Only one room per hotel is counted toward a members nights or stay.
Members electing to earn miles are not eligible for this promotion.
For a list of current Marriott Rewards participating brands, visit https://www.marriott.com/marriott-re...earn/hotels.mi.
Stays at our exclusive luxury hotel partner, The Ritz-Carlton, will count toward achievement.

SPG is 1,000 bonus points for each stay, and SPG transfer directly to MR at a rate of 3/1. If you consider that you typically get 500 SPG points ac a welcome gift per stay compared to 500 MR points, there's no reason this offer should sway anyone to Marriott over SPG properties, and if anything, the opposite is true.

I'd guess this promo is more about not losing guests to other promos. 2k per stay would be enough for me.

While 4k per stay/night is appealing, 1k per stay/night when SPG is offering triple that (or, god forbid, requiring 8/10 stays just to hit that!!) is pretty laughable. 2k each is about the minimum reasonable level given the current SPG promo. My other half and I will be making sure to get two stays each, but will only plan for more if one of us gets the 4k/night offer.
That's assuming any of those are accurate, which (no offense to Marriott15) I'm not sure I'm convinced of.
Does anyone have any recent experience with Marriott allowing Plats to change their Megabonus offer? It's been quite some time since I asked it of them, though back then they did it with no pushback at all.

I would guess 1 and 2 would be stays, while 4 and 5 should be nights. Point 3 is a toss up.
I don't think Marriott has ever given 10k points for every 8 stays. Usually X nights gets X number of points. If it is true, 8 stays gets 10k points, then it is a really weak promo.

Everyone has their own opinion on this. Marriott has the highest stock compared to any other competitive hotel!
Other brands in my opinion will do everything and anything to out do the Marriott promotion to drive business! If Marriott stock price falls I would see them doing better promotions but the stock price is at the highest point ever in history! To them as long as they offer something!
They just added 300,000 hotel rooms worldwide and are growing!
Remember SPG rewards department is still run by their own people. Once they switch over to Marriott in late 2018 it will be interesting to see what the promotions are!
SPG is not worth it for me. I am at 82 nights on the year right now and in the small towns I go into there is not SPG hotel.
I tried doing Hilton rewards but every single time I wanted to use points they wanted 60k-70k
My Philosophy on earning enough points for rewards nights is stick with one company don't go hopping around. My company pays for my nights up to $250. I know some people have to pay out of pocket for their personal business so I can see hopping different brands.

Question: If two people wish to stay for 4 consecutive nights in the same room, according to the Post #150 (click here for link), we can book at tandem:
Day 1 - Person A
Day 2 - Person B
Day 3 - Person A
Day 4 - Person B
This way, both Person A and Person B can earn 2 stays each for the promotion.
What if Person A is MR Gold Elite, and Person B has no status? Would it be tough asking for the Gold Elite complimentary room upgrade on Days 2 & 4? Would having both names on all reservations help?
Thanks in advance!

As far as elite benefits go, I'd negotiate with the property manager. I was/am Silver so there was no free breakfast involved and I didn't really care too much about the bonus points.

Ok, yet another update. I did email MR a few days ago ask them about the promotion. They just responded, and apologized for the confusion. They indicated that the emails to members unlocking the second offer would be sent to members "starting next week". So it may be even longer for many of us to receive our offer. Oh well.

With the current Megabonus promo, if one stays at 4 different hotels for 1 night at each hotel, does one get 2 free nights? Or is the free night capped to only one?

Quick update - the CAT 5 certificate appeared in my account on Friday
(Amazingly, I found a use for it!)

The other 2 paid nights of the 4 should count toward any "unlocked" promo you might get, but you won't know if and what "unlocked" promo you get until some time after the free night certificate posts. (Supposedly 2-3 days after that, but in this early part of the promo, it's taking much longer.) And, supposedly, once your "unlocked" promo is revealed, you'll have only a couple weeks to register, and if you miss that window, you won't earn any further bonus for the rest of the year.

I completed my 2 stays and have the Cat5 cert in my account now as well.
I am definitely interested in whether the next phase of the promo is stays or nights....hopefully nights, as I have 20 nights across only 8 stays coming up through mid November..
I did the hotel hopping for the Summer promo...it was a P.I.T.A but I'll adjust my schedule to do it again if necesary
Like already stated above: All of my travel costs are paid for by my company & Marriott offers the most number of properties for where I travel, so switching to another hotel brand at this point in the year doesn't make sense.

Certiciate
How do you use the certificate? I have never used one before. When you go to check out does it ask if you would like to use your certificate just like using a gift card?
Do you have to pay tax or parking fees with a certificate?
