Do I need paper copy of award reservation?
Dear Marriott,
I am looking to stay next week in one of your hotels. I have booked a stay using points. The hotel is a category 1 hotel and I have booked 7 nights. At the time of booking I believe that 45,000 points were deducted. My receipt indicates that I would need to show an e-certificate to the hotel. However the booking says that the e-certificate is sent to the hotel. In order to understand this further, I read the fAQS on the Marriott site which provided no additional information. I am concerned about turning up at the hotel and them demanding the e-certificate. I have seen in forums this happen before. Why can't Marriott just email or send me the voucher to use rather than the hotel. I am concerned the hotel will not have this e-certificate and it will cause a drama. Because we are staying in a third-world location, my concern is that things will not be done properly. Regards, SvenAge |
You'll be fine, and you don't need to do anything more than you've already done in terms of the e-cert.
The Marriott website can be a bit confusing in terms of the language it uses regarding e-certs in your reservation details. The e-cert process for your booking is automatic and electronic. Here's the T&C from the MR site: The Rewards Program offers "paperless" Redemption Certificates known as "e-Certificates". e-Certificates allow a member to book a redemption reservation up to 24 hours in advance of a stay. e-Certificates are automatically sent to the hotel – you do not need to bring a paper record of the Rewards Redemption order to the hotel. |

Here's the T&C from the MR site: https://www.marriott.com/rewards/terms/usetrms.mi#ecert My concern is that it is part of the Protea chain and that this part of the world is known to have its fair share of 'mishaps'. Not wanting to go on a tangent but it seems commonplace in this part of the world to 'accidentally' charge $500 for car hire incidentals, or not return the deposit within a couple months. Last time we flew in as well, the jet bridge missed its intended target by about 10 metres. There is a lot talk about lost/missing paper work online... with Marriott HQ and it's chain hotels. |

Next time you might want to use a more specific thread title.

You won't receive an answer from Marriott in this forum (especially on a weekend). You should be fine, as others have noted. If you're concerned, contact Marriott itself (reservations) to re-confirm tomorrow & have them make any notes to your account. Enjoy your trip.
Cheers. |
can email hotel(s) directly to confirm stay (in writing)

There is a thread about Protea where you can see others have been doing redemption stays in Protea hotels already.
I cannot think of anything that Marriott would be able to do at this point. But indeed, you don't need a paper to hand over at the reception. Your e-certificate is linked to your reservation. |
