That depends on your rate. If staying at under $100/night, then the Marriott bonus (if you can do multiples of 10 nights, that is) may be better, since it's 1000, which would be doubling of what you earn at most brands for $100. If staying at over $100/night, Hilton might be better.

But that's of course only if you view Hilton and Marriott points equally. I see so many places where Marriott costs 35k or 40k but Hilton starts at 50k or 60k for redemptions.

And, btw, rumor (but not officially confirmed yet) is that Hilton will be TRIPLE points for mobile bookings come October. That may change the math, but (a) only if you can use mobile (some people who have to do corporate bookings can't), and (b) only for October on, not September.

"include" or "are limited to"???

I spot both Delta and Protea missing. Any others? Is that intentional, or is it because the list was copied and pasted from before when those brands were fully integrated?

What a great spot SDSearch, I'm sure it must be a copy and paste job, but for Protea and Delta guests, well they'll need confirmation...

Just seems to be an odd way to market a promotion.
This person did in the summer promo - my husband stayed exactly the 6 nights he needed to max it out, then switched to Hilton. For this new "mega" bonus, we need to look at our upcoming travel and pick a promo so we can decide if he'll stay exactly 5, 10, or 20 nights before switching to Hilton.

We can't all be staying at Hilton this quarter, can we?

Just as a quick reminder:

September 15, 2013, through January 15, 2014- 50K points for 25 nights

September 15, 2014, through January 15, 2015- 55K points for 30 nights

September 15, 2015, through January 15, 2016- 45K points for 30 nights

September 15, 2016, through January 15, 2017- 50K points for 50 nights

And it's not like points are worth more than they used to be.

Does the promo say anywhere that we have to register before the first stay (i.e. the first stay that we want to make count) or can we wait until we see which promo is better for us and register later? I haven't received the email yet.

To be fair, I wasn't the first to spot Protea missing. Someone else mentioned (and accepted) that upthread. Seeing that led me to look at it more carefully, and when I spotted Delta also missing, and realized these are the two newest brands in the Marriott program, well, then theories started forming in my head.

The promo doesn't start for more than 2 weeks from now. Other than this email, which it seems hardly anyone except the OP has reported getting, there hasn't been any official confirmation. Nobody has reported seeing this as a "new promotion" when they log in, no Marriott representative has come here (as they have in the past) to promote it, no one has mentioned anyone promoting this on Marriott Insiders yet, etc, etc.

So far all we know the email the OP got may have been sent in error, whether just for minor points like which brands are included, or maybe for the whole structure of the promo! For example, until we see what other people get, there's no proof that there's zero targeting going on. One previous rumor was that Marriott was going to move to targeted promos, rather than "one size fits all" promos, a bit more like IHG. What this email mentioned instead smells like the "choose your promo" that Hilton did once or twice in the past (though the choices there were not as radically different as the two choices mentioned in the email the OP got).

It's been confirmed on Marriott Rewards Insiders on Marriott's website:

"The news is breaking today – so we’re making sure you have the scoop. Registration for the fall MegaBonus is here, with a twist: For the first time, you can pick your bonus to match your travel plans.

Travel a little? Earn faster with 5,000 points after just two stays. A stay equals one or more nights spent in a row, whether one night or a whole vacation – so if you’re planning just a couple of getaways, this is the best option for you.

Travel a lot? Go farther with 10,000 points for every 10 nights stayed. Nights count rather than stays for this choice, so you can watch your points add up along with your time on the road – up to 50,000 points.

All you have to do is register. The registration deadline is December 15, but if you register now, you can earn for the whole MegaBonus period – September 15, 2016 through January 15, 2017. The earlier you register, the earlier you earn."

No email yet for me. Nor does the promo show in my account.

Thanks. That makes it look official. From reading the Insiders site I'm going to assume for now that any promo period stays I have before I register won't count.

That's it, I am moving 31 nights to Hilton and Hyatt. I am keeping the bookings for award stays though.

I was the one who previously mentioned that Protea was missing. I have asked the obvious question over on marriott insider. FWIW, there is no such exclusion listed in the T&C on their web site at the link provided via insider: http://joinmarriottrewards.com/PickYourBonus/en/terms/

It is 10k for 10 stays not 50k. The promotion starts 9/15, maybe you could split your reservation for the last two days to another Marriott property and than you could have 2 stays for the 5k bonus. (Your October stay would count as one stay)
