AC Marriott Cambridge Park [Cambridge, MA]

Property is coming along nicely, but still no word for an official or soft opening date other than "August 2016". IMO this is a much better location than Medford for most visitors to our local area although the property is about a half mile west of the Alewfie MBTA Red Line station which is accessible on a footpath leading to the the Minute Man bikeway. It seems they're hoping to tap into the Route 128 Corridor business which is only a 15-minute or so drive outside peak traffic and also people wanting easy access to the city. Unclear what parking arrangements they will have and if it will be chargeable.

Website: "Experience the AC Hotel Boston Cambridge, located in Discovery Park campus, steps away from the Alewife T station, minutes from Downtown Cambridge." Look forward to first reports once it's opened.

It's a category 6.

Where is downtown Cambridge? Surely they're referring to the Kendall square area, which in the past seven years or so has become a major tech and biotech hotspot. It only has a few "high rises", two are residential (Watermark East & Watermark West), MIT student housing, and the Cambridge Center Marriott & office complex. Would hardly call that a downtown. Seriously who comes up with this stuff?

Here is a story for you all:

In 1988 I and my company did a project in the Kendall Square area and we stayed at the just opened Marriott Kendall Square.

One day at lunch with the client, we talked about all the new construction in the area. The client told us that much of the area had been cleared in the 1960s in preparaction for the building of the NASA headquarters, including Mission Control.

When JFK was assassinated and LBJ became president, the project was moved to suburban Houston.

I wish it was closer to Alewife T - only 3 stops to Harvard Square and two further to Kendall Square.
