Does Marriott block Internet ports?

Does Marriott block Internet ports? I have a custom port remote server I connect to for work, but it's not connecting here in a Courtyard Marriott.

I always stay Hilton and don't have an issue, so I'm wondering if anyone else has this issue with Marriott?

I've never seen this happen at the Marriott's I've stayed in over the past few years...But it could be done on a property-by-property basis.

I have seen this before. However, they usually have a special VPN connection available which usually has all ports open.

CY internet is usually horrible (at least at the few I've stayed in), that might be a factor.

Suggest you ask Front Desk to connect you with their (offsite) IT contractor. You may get told by the contractor you can't connect, but you'll be no worse off than you are now.
My experience is that the higher-end hotels and resorts (FS Marriotts and JWs, and Residence Inns) are more tolerant of streaming etc. than they were even a couple of years ago.

OK - so, I stayed at the Courtyard last night, and then the Residence Inn right across the parking lot the next night. Courtyard blocked the port it seems, because I'm connecting fine on the Residence Inn network.

Very strange there'd be a difference in 2 hotels literally right next to each other.

Good to know for future stays. Maybe each brand has it's own IT? Very strange.

Not strange at all. Many franchisees choose their own ISP and defines their own rules. And even if operated by the same company, they could have signed up different ISPs at different times.

also the Courtyard speeds were 3 mbps down/up while Residence Inn was 4.5 down/up.

seems like hotels literally next to each other would be managed the same but guess not

Even if they are operated by the same company, they may have a totally different ISP arrangement. The first may very well have been a learning situation and they went for a better deal the second time around and the first will get changed when the contract is up.

All too often people seem to think just because one outfit does things one way they all will follow suit. The larger FS properties were typically the early adopters of HSIA service and paid a dear price for it (hence the charging) whereas the lesser properties coming along later were able to get a much better deal and could offer free service.
