Not refunded the whole amount
I stayed at a resort property as a platinum member booked on Marriott's site. After checkout I saw a double charge on my credit card. I emailed the two addresses listed on the bottom of the folio, one bounced and one I never got a reply from that was addressed to the front office manager. I called MR for assistance and they tranferred me to the hotel. I told the manager on duty what is going on and she said she will investigate. She sent me my folio again and a second folio showing a separate charge for a room. I told her the room was paid for in the original folio and she said that is correct and will process the refund.
The refund came but it was short a few dollars approximately $6. When asked why I was shorted I was told the currency changed value and they can either send me a check or issue 5000 points for the trouble. I am leaning towards the points. How would you all handle? |
When Marriott failed to respond initially, you might have saved your time if you had just filed a dispute with your credit card, especially if both bills were posted to the same credit card.
Despite devaluations, I think it's still the case that 5,000 points are worth more than $6. |
Can you buy 5k pts for $6? No brainer . . . .
|
If you have any use for the points, take them. If you don't use the points, they have no value.
As others note, in future, don't waste your time. Make a single attempt to straighten things out, e.g., the email, and then initiate the chargeback. Time is money. |
Take the 5,000 points. It would cost you $62.50 if you were buying them from Marriott, so better deal than the $6 refund.
Cheers. |
