Can one count on marriott for notice

Based on people's hopefully long term experience with Marriott and United is there any chance that the flight and hotel point packages -- specifically the one at preferable rates with mileage plus --

Is there any significant Chance that the program will be either abolished or devalued with zero days notice ? (Possibly if they create a brand new Marriott Starwood program).

Have they removed benefits or other good stuff before from rewards without giving members a last chance to use points at previous rates and conditions?

Inactive member, have always been wary of Marriott due to the degree of the annual devaluation , and the disorganized way they have done it I. The past, sometimes even getting their own hotels names wrong.

Marriott is usually pretty good about giving notice of major program changes. So in general, I don't think you will wake up one morning and find that the United TP awards have disappeared with no prior notice being given.

I can't say they have never made "changes" without first giving notice, but those are usually smaller changes (i.e. individual hotel category changes, etc.) The times they have added or taken away whole reward options they have given 3-6 months of notice.

The main thing that can happen without notice at Marriott is a particular hotel dropping out of the program / being "deflagged". But that's the rare individual hotel, not the whole program.

Oh, and last year there was not much official notice about there not being a summer promo (but there was advance speculation of that here on FlyerTalk).
