I will follow up for sure. So far it's Monday and no word from anyone. I'm going to most likely switch over to the Intercon, and follow up with the GM if he\she isn't around today.
As for the cealing. Who knows. When I arrived to the room I noticed the carpet to be a bit wet. I assumed from cleaning and was too tired to switch rooms. Little did I know...

Upgrademe: because I can...

Its possible the leak was above the bathroom, but the water could run along the ceiling until it broke through the bedroom.

OP I think you would have got a lot more sympathy and good advice here if you just stated that the total value of personal items damaged was $xxxx and moved on. Every post of yours has a laundry list of brand names and it turns people off.

I couldn't have stated it better myself.

Drywall/Sheetrock ceiling. Drywall uses a paper facing. The bubble is caused by the paper peeling away from the gypsum panel where the water is leaking through.

Nonetheless I appreciate your input, it is a appreciated..

MrVker: Could totally be.. It was leaking on both sides of the room..

Well name brand or not, the OP has my sympathy. I'd be really upset if that had happened to me.

Besides moving me to another room (that's a duh), I'd want the room comp'd, items that can be cleaned cleaned, items that were destroyed replaced or some $$ compensation (TBD) to offset replacing them, and some additional points tossed in to make up for the hassle.

Given the photos Marriott's insurance will presumably cover the $$ outlay; moving room & comp'ing is internal. The GM should take care of this promptly & then get his engineering staff up there to figure out what's wrong w/ the pipes. If it spreads to other rooms, s/he has a bigger issue on his/her hands.

Cheers.

Although ryan754 doesn't care, I still have the same sympathy for him regardless - it's not a situation I've heard about before, and puts some of our minor complaints into focus (although I'll still sure as hell complain about them).

Right now we have some great advice (SkiAdcock hit the nail on the head), and as usual for incidents I'd say to see what the hotel offers, and compare it against the compensation you'd be willing to accept.

Regarding the comped room aspect, I always weigh that against whether I'm paying for my travel or my customer/employer. If the later, then I usually request additional point compensation based on that room rate, as it has no benefit to me if they save others money, and I don't earn the points that I spend on my wife.

For the Etro shirt (yes, name dropping annoys me as much as everyone else, but doesn't affect my sympathy), I've had the exact same compensation for a shirt destroyed by the hotel's dry cleaner in SFO.

If people get turned off by high-end brand names, then maybe they should just skip the thread.

These threads on FT frequently get side-tracked by snippy comments from various posters who don't like something or other.

My guess is that if the OP had just listed the prices of the items, then someone would
have berated the OP for not being more specific.

The OP has my sympathy.

Thanks for the posts guys... Negative and positive..
Let me follow up a bit here. Now originally I was staying at this property one night as I had a quick meeting day of arrival followed by personal time, and leaving.. Now due to having a lack clothes for most the day I needed to extend my stay. Upon the FD confirming my rate for another night I asked for a manager..
Finally I was able to speak with someone a FD manager. He of course was apologetic.. We had a diplomatic conversation, and he offered me 20,000 points.. Of course he told me to get in contact about any expenses I may have incurred (for insurance) Which works for me. I learned that my room flooded so bad that the room below it flooded too, I'm happy to share that that room wasn't occupied.. I would feel bad for the staff if the wrong person/family was occupying that room. Now there was no talk of comping the stay. He did offer me a ride to the airport (Which useful or not what is a nice gesture)
So I'll be in the States soon, I'll replace what needs to be replaced, and maybe get a quick health check up just to be safe.. I'll probably reach out to the GM and request the stay be comped as well as a few more points. Then be done with it. I appreciate the FD manager making an effort, and I'm assuming that he doesn't have the power as the GM, so I'm not going to put him in an uncomfortable position.
I'll update the thread when I hear more. At over 300 nights a year in hotels, I have to say this made hotel life a little interesting...
Finally as for all the "stuff" blame my ex.. I used to be a very simple guy! Date a girl from Baden Baden for a few years, and things change.... The trade off is living off free lounge food.. hahah

Mods, since this thread seems to have run its course maybe we should close it and move on?

Or we can wait for an update. Which I'm sure some people would appreciate. This is flyer talk after all... My social standing on an Internet forum reallllllly doesn't matter at the end of the day buddy
Another funny thing regarding my explanation of damaged goods... We write about flying first class all the time. I'm supposed the butt hurt police don't comment on those posts. My last first class ticket cost a hell of a lot more than my luggage lol.

As several posters have pointed out, nobody told the OP to go on a shopping spree. As the original post indicates, the OP asked what he should ask for. The answers given were to that question. Nobody suggested he should willy-nilly go on a shopping spree. The later posts were suggestions of what he should ask for. The poster who indicated such owes many people apologies, and should read more carefully next time before making accusations.

@OP - could you please disclose the name of the property? I really feel sorry for your situation. We almost had something like this at CY Bremen Germany, the ceiling in the entrance area (where the closets are) fell off when we were sleeping (we were checking out later that day). Mr. heard a loud "pom" sound and woke me up. Fortunately it wasn't on us - otherwise I don't think I'll be writing now.

Mentioned this at check out - showed the FD the picture. All they offered was comp parking which we didn't use. They apologized and asked if there is anything damaged and that is - we didn't think about pursuing further as we felt so lucky that the ceiling on our bed wasn't the one falling off and that we put our bags in the closet. I guess they think that we slept, we used the room, of course we have to pay for it although they couldn't stop the ceiling from falling down - the European approach.
