If I call the Platinum Elite reservations number can
they make a 5 night award stay happen if it isn't showing available online?
Would they be able to honor the book 4 nights stay 5 award if they couldn't keep me in one hotel for the five night. Could it be stretched over the two hotels? Say two nights in one hotel and then the three nights where I really want to stay.

You might have better luck contacting the property directly.
FWIW, I was denied a similar request by both the Plat line and the actual hotel. I checked back online at least once a day for months, but the date never opened. But it never hurts to ask. The worst that can happen is that you are no worse off than you were before asking.

you seem to want to use the platinum override for the sold out nights (as well as split the 4 for 5 which was addressed by others) however this perk is only available for paid night stays and not point nights.

Unfortunately, it seems the Plat line agents don't seem to want to contact a hotel for you any more. I used to call them up for very similar situations and they would call the hotel for me. Sometimes it would work. More often it didn't. But now, the few times I've asked them to do this over the last year or 2, they told me they can't/won't call hotels any longer.
Don't know if I just received bad agents or if there has been a complete change in what they will/won't do.
But to the OP, over the years, I have found a few hotels that would open up a night or 2 for awards when they didn't show any availability online. Unfortunately, far more wouldn't open any up.
