Room downgrade??

Hi all,

Anybody experienced that when you arrive hotel, staff was telling you that the room type you've reserved were full and requested you to accept downgrade?
Just last week when I arrive Courtyard Bangkok, the executive room I reserved were all gone, staff was persuading me to accept a normal Deluxe room (with all executive room benefit unchanged), is this normal practice?

Certainly not normal practice. I would have explained that I cannot accept a room category lower than what I had reserved (not without a substantial discount anyway) and asked whether they can upgrade me to something nice instead. And this should apply whether you have any status at Marriott or not.

They should upgrade you instead. Poor service.

I hope they cut your charges to the regular rate, at least.

Moreover, the rate on the downgraded room should not be the rate available when you arrive but rather what it would have cost to book the downgraded room type at the time you made your reservation. You should also get a bunch of points for the inconvenience. A good property will also tend to send a gift, typically F&B, with apology note to your room.

Is there any physical difference between an executive room and a deluxe room beyond floor and lounge access?

iztok Jan 6, 2015 10:08 am

It looks like rooms are the same size. Difference is in the lounge access and perhaps some amenities (i.e. bathrobe etc...)

And they are giving the OP lounge access. So loss is perhaps a bathrobe?

My experience in a situation like this, is the hotel will gladly deliver bathrobes to the room upon request.

So the hotel could have bypassed this whole issue if they would have just put a robe in the room before the OP arrived?

It might be on a different floor, but there are hotels where 4-5 floors are designated as exec level.
