Upsell an upgraded room - when is it charged?

Hello All,

I had an award stay coming up, and I called the property itself to secure an upgraded room (I'm a measly Gold). They told me that they can't confirm a complimentary upgrade (which I expected).

When I inquired about whether I can pay $ to secure an upgrade, they are in fact able to put me in a suite, for a fee of $50/night. I looked at my reservation, and it does indeed reflect the upgrade.

However, I was not asked for my credit card information during this process, nor do I see it on my reservation for an additional charge. Did I luck out? Or will I be billed once I check in?

You'll get billed when you check in - unless you really luck out & they forget to do so (don't count on it though).

Cheers.

$50 seems fair for a confirmed suite upgrade. Might be helpful to the rest of us to let us know which property was willing to do this. Thanks.

Wouldn't you be billed at check out?

Techically an estimated hold will be place on your credit card at check-in and you'll be charged the final amount at check-out.

That is a decent deal, one every property should offer to upper elites maybe once or twice a year as a benefit, whether free, a token amount of cash or just more points. Would take some of the stress out of an annual family vacation...
