Situations like this are the reason that many of us avoid CY's whenever possible.

Absolutely. Although this is a new one.

There is just a nationwide arrogance at this brand that I don't understand. Perhaps their management fee or bonus structure is setup in such a manner that every employee feels empowered to be as difficult as possible...

^+1

Unless you are stuck in Altoona where CY is your only Marriott choice and you are one night short on the Getaway Bonus, which is what happened to me last week. Or you want to use a Cat 5 cert in Montreal, which also happened to me last week. Or you need to be in Lewisville, TX, where the FI is horrible and the TPS only offers half points, which is what's happening to me next week.

And therein is the problem; there always seems to be a reason to wind up in a CY, no matter how hard one tries to avoid them.

Folks, let's not turn a property/situation specific thread into a general CY brand bashing thread. There are already plenty of those ;)

Cheers.

There's a courtyard in Altoona? I always had to stay in ankeny and take a ridiculously overpriced and late cab

It's not like it's the days of the buffet, where someone could load up on items and take it back to their rooms. It's grab and go or the single plate of stuff. I guess if someone did want to order the eggs and bacon, and then share it, they could. But, it's not really the hotel's business.

The El Segundo Courtyard is not a very good one. It's renovated, and in a good location, but the front desk staff is as clueless as can be.

+1 No one said you can't share your meal (since it's not a buffet), if they actually do, I will definitely have a word with the manager.

Good news: Yes, there is an Altoona CY at the Convention Center.

Bad news: It's in Altoona, PA, not Altoona IA.

I mentioned something similar happened to me at a Courtyard in Paris. I had around 10 stays booked, each confirmation clearly stated Breakfast included, with 2000 bonus points.

I had to fight on every check-in to get the breakfast (they said it wasn't included). None of the bonus points were posting, despite promises from the front desk.

I eventually got sick of it, and cancelled the last 3 stays. On the day I cancelled - all the bonus points posted (coincidence??) :)

I changed to a Novotel Suites hotel, which was half the price, closer to the office and generally a nicer hotel. I'll miss out on the MegaBonus though...

Lol. When visiting Des Moines customers we sometimes like to hit the horse track up... I was hoping they built a CY there.

Altoona PA has a convention center?

Yes, although it has nothing to do w/ the OP's OP (realize someone else sidetracked the thread).

Cheers.

Actually Sharon, there is a (physical) connection. The formal name of the venue is the Blair County Convention Center, and the CY Altoona is physically connected to the convention center. There are no other hotels on the center property.
