HELP! Change in status from Plat. To Silver

I am currently traveling abroad and got an email from the Marriott that I'm staying in Tokyo on Wednesday. The email said my status was Silver. I kind of brushed it off but I logged into my account today and sure enough it says I'm silver. I was Plat last year and paid to keep my status back in February.

I know that as late as Monday/Tuesday it said my status was Plat (like it should be). I've already emailed customer service. Does anyone have any other ideas? I'd really like to make sure my status is straight before my stay in Tokyo. Has anyone had this happen to them before?

Maybe call customer service?

Do you have documentation of the transaction to keep Platinum? Call customer service with that information ASAP.

If this matter has urgency and importance, I'm confused why the OP chose to email rather than call CS.

Probably because the OP started with: "I am currently traveling abroad".

If you don't have a local SIM card (or a calling card that works where you are), it can be quite expensive to call Marriott from overseas (either int'l roaming or hotel phones).

Yes, being out of country can greatly restrict your ability to reach out and touch someone. In this case, if you are staying at a Marriott property, you may be able to get connected to MR for free. If not, using some form of VoIP service might be a good way to go. Many services allow toll-free numbers without having to pay per minute. Or you can look up SIP Broker codes to dial toll-free numbers for free. Personally, I use CallCentric that has many peering agreements.

Smartphone + WiFi + Skype.

Vonage app is even better.

Not everyone has a smartphone ;)

Cheers.

Magic jack! Never leave the US without it. :)

Anybody who routinely travels overseas needs some form of tech solution to local toll charges. Doesn't really matter what it is. Even if you don't sign up for a plan, Skype back to the USA can run as little as $0.01/minute or $2.99 "unlimited" for the month in which you are traveling.

Bottom line for OP is that he has two choices: 1) call Marriott; 2) lump it.

Customer service won't be in until Monday morning Utah time, so you're probably stuck until then. You can hope they respond in time via email or you'll have to find a way to call cheap.

Cheers.

Did you recently apply for a Marriott rewards credit card? This same thing happened to me this week after I applied. A quick call to the Rewards customer service line and they fixed it.

I actually just applied for a Marriott Biz CC.

I ended up getting the customer service rep to get it fixed over email. Back to Plat thankfully!

Brand new, and scores a bullseye. Impressive!
