But I'm not the type to go loaded with the T&Cs on hand just in case the receptionist doesn't understand or, go down for breakfast and get stopped and have to explain it all again. I've just made 180,000 avios for 117 so will let this one slide.

Thanks everyone.
Don't go loaded for bear... Ask nicely at check in, you're likely to get one of two answers, yes or no. Not asking will most likely be the same as no. It's worth a try, not a fight.

Thank you RodgerD408. It's something to think over a bit more.

I guess I don't understand why you don't reserve under your account and change the MR# at check out. That gets you everything you want and should be very little trouble.

Evidently she'd rather go loaded for bear than do the very simple thing that multiple FTers have suggested which would get her what she wants. Heck, she even considered enrolling her hubbie on a Plat challenge rather than do the simple thing. And let's not all forget - this is a lot of angst about breakfast for crikey's sake. To each their own, but I don't get it. So if she goes for it great. If she doesn't great. If she doesn't & kvetchs afterwards, talk to the hand. But that's just me.

Cheers.

I think there is a slight misunderstanding between our different cultural backgrounds on how we handle issues. Easily understandable. I'm English, we don't argue with the staff and the staff never argue with us. Breakfast can cost around 70 or at today's USD conversion rate $93 dollars so if I can avoid paying this then all the better. Thank you for all your suggestions.

There seems to be an inference that since I pointed out this is permitted under the rules somehow I must be arguing with staff. Nothing could be farther from the truth. I have never had an issue getting this done, although in the past it was easy because you could just list the second guest online or call the Plat line without the long wait. Having the link to point out that it is in the terms and conditions is not arguing. Benefits were always granted when mine was the second guest name listed because that's the rule and the hotel knows the rule. No discussion was needed when the name was already listed.

The last time I had an issue with one of the rules I very gently told the front desk clerk at the PIT SHS what she said was not quite right, we had an extremely friendly discussion, I printed out the rule for her, she thanked me both then and when I was checking out and felt bad she had told others the wrong thing. There was no argument. At this point I do not even remember the issue, but she had gone out of her way to explain something as guests were checking in but whatever it was just was off in the explanation.
