Using Marriott Gift Cards in Australia
 

Does anyone know, or has anyone used a Marriott gift card in Australia? I was wondering if you used the gift card, is it treated like cash - and thus avoids the 1.5% surcharge that is always added when you use a credit card at a hotel in Australia.

I used a GC last year at the Melbourne Marriott. I do not per se remember if I was charged the 1.5%, but I do remember that in total the exchange rate was very favorable, so they probably did not.
