Originally offered/automatically signed up for the 35K/50K points version. Knew that the number of nights during that time period would not reach even the 35K level. Sent an e-mail through the website to MR contact. Received response moving to the Stays/Cat 1-5 Cert offer about a day later:

MegaBonus only begins accruing on Feb 1. I have ten more nights avail in Jan before the bonus kicks in. ANY chance they'll add those nights?
Otherwise Marriott is losing my business for those nights and I'd stay in another chain. All of them have bonuses over those nights. |

Otherwise Marriott is losing my business for those nights and I'd stay in another chain. All of them have bonuses over those nights. There are typically at least multi-week gaps between bonuses at Marriott Rewards, at SPG, at Club Carlson, at Choice Privileges, at Best Western Rewards, at IHG Club (fomerly Priority Club), etc, etc. The only hotel program that tends to start another promo within days of the previous promo ending that I can think of is Hilton HHonors. But in their case, they also dont' seem to ever announce the next promo until days before it starts, making people who have to book ahead quite annoyed, especially since many of their promos have non-participating hotels !) So yes, if you're into always getting bonuses, you need to belong to more than one hotel program, and jump between them to "follow the bonuses". You can make one program (such as Marriott) your primary, meaing that's what you choose when there's a bonus there even if there's a bonus somewhere else too, but you might as well go somewhere else (where you can earn the bonus) during "dead periods" (whether those dead periods are between the end of one bonus period and the start of a second bonus period, or whether they're simply after you've "maxed out" the number of stays that earn a bonus in the current bonus period). |

No offer for me either. Disappointing since I will be staying at a Marriott for the next several weeks. I put an email into Marriott CS. Hopefully they can allow me to sign up for it.

There's no hopefully about it. As has been repeatedly MULTIPLE times int his thread:
Everyone gets a MegaBonus. Sometimes there's an IT glitch and it doesn't show up automatically If you contact Marriott by phone, email, or carrier pigeon, they will kick IT and it will show up |

I am also Platinum and made the same request as WFP, above, today, via the email web form on the website, and got a very different answer. Is the right answer to answer shop and try again? Call Platinum dedicated line?

Try again
I received the exact same response from Brian H. I was not happy as I had included that I had read that numerous people on FlyerTalk had been able to make the change.
Instead of writing again, I called Platinum customer service and was told they would make the change to the Cat 1-5 certs. My account online still shows the original promotion but hopefully the change is there somewhere and will be updated manually after the promotion ends. |
