Bonus Point rates - when do the bonus points post?
 

Booked a Marriott Rewards rate last weekend (at the Ren O'Hare Suites) that included 1500 bonus points per night. Yesterday, my regular points posted for the stay but not the bonus points. Will they come eventually, or do the bonus points usually post with the rest of the points?

I book quite a bit using the reward offer bonus points and my experience has been that only about 1 in 10 times the bonus points post. The rest of the time it's a phone call to MR and the hotels. Very frustrating because MR points the finger at the hotel and the hotel staff tells me to call MR. The truth is that it's on the hotel's GM or Director of Sales to post the bonus points.

I had a rate last November that was a "Stay for Breakfast" rate with 1,000 bonus points at a CY in Lake Beuna Vista. I had to call in in order for the points to post.

Indeed, I had to call the MR Silver Elite line who then harassed the hotel into giving me the points. They showed up in my account about 2 hours later.

Better question: How did you negotiate getting an additional 1,500 points per night?

you don't negotiate these points ................certain hotels put these bonuses up for stays............the OP stayed and wanted to collect their bonus.........

It is possible to negotiate points depending on the number of rooms booked (if for a group) and the number of nights stayed. I'm currently getting a 50% bonus per stay (from the base bonus, no elite bonus) which is pretty cool and was factored into the negotiations when choosing hotels in the area.

you have taken my reply to the OPs original post regarding a hotel booked which INCLUDED bonus points completely out of context.............

I understand this is not the OPs case, but you made it sound --or I misunderstood it, apologies if so-- are never negotiated when indeed they can be. IME, if they are negotiated with the hotel the points can take a couple of weeks to post, since someone has to manually enter them.

correct.............my comment was addressed and limited to the OPs question regarding bonus points tied to a rate which included these bonus points.....

certainly there are other ways to obtain points by negotiation as this forum is replete with posters claiming/demanding/obtaining bonus points for various issues.......

In my limited (only) experience.

From the hotel... Never.
From Marriott as a "goodwill gesture"... Once.

In August I booked a night at Marriott Worsley Park on the 2500 bonus points rate as it was only £10 more than the cheapest rate and I value 2500 MR points at a minimum of £20. In reality it's the first time any of the bonus points rates have provided any value. As it turned out after 2 emails and 4 phone calls to MR but no joy from the hotel, despite me forwarding a copy of my booking, MR finally gave in on the hotel and posted the 2500 points to me as "goodwill".

Needless to say all the effort was not worth it and I would advise everyone to eschew this offer from Worsley Park, since the effort to actually get the points is no way compensatory for the measly value unlocked.

I *might* consider the offer again from a different hotel but TBH the experiences of other posters are not encouraging.

I've booked bonus points rates a few times and I don't remember ever having to call MR for them to post, however I don't believe they always posted right away.

Further to the above, there is currently running for Thailand, Vietnam & Philippine properties for a bonus 1,000 MR points per night for certain rooms.

I stayed at the Manila property nearly 2 weeks ago and the points still haven't posted. I have several other stays coming up where I have booked this deal, e.g. Vietnam next week.

Does anyone know whether being registered for the Megabonus promotion (or any other promotion for that matter) might affect whether these points would post? i.e. you can only be eligible for 1 promo at at time?

at least in Thailand, this promo costs more then the non-promo rate + buying the "supposed" bonus points............
