Poorly constructed 9/11 remembrance at one hotel

Not sure which property this is, but it's awful tone deaf. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/BT5LCvSIYAECqIK.jpg

Slightly more info here, but the property is not identified:

I understand that there were good intentions behind this, but referencing the specific time period on the flyer seems particularly crass.

Only 30 minutes? This is really just a sneaky way to get everybody to have a moment of silence.

Who would be able to talk when they're jawing their way through a bone-dry muffin, with only scalding, over-roasted Stabucks to wash it down with? :p

This is flabbergasting, considering that Marriott associates were heroes during 9/11, sacrificing lives so that guests and others could be saved before the WTC Marriott was destroyed in the collapse of the WTC towers.

You would think that Marriott, of all hotel brands, would be hyper-sensitive to 9/11.

Edited to add: It appears the hotel was the San Diego Marriott Mission Valley. A big fat raspberry (muffin) to the genius who came up with this promo.

I bet we are only years away from one day "sale-a-brations" to honor those who perished on that day much like what Memorial Day has turned into.

A few days after the attacks, the local papers here were full of grocery and electronic store advertisements condemning the attacks but reminding people of their hours of business.

BTW, drove by the rebuilt Marriott and Freedom Tower 3 days ago for the first time ever and place looks great.

A nice thought but really bad to include the times. Why not make it the entire morning and put a period after "muffins"?

disgusting. How about making a donation to the local Fireman instead. I really don't get people sometimes.

This is appalling - I do realize the intentions were good but who ever created this sign and this promotion has rocks for brains. Talk about lack of emotional intelligence.

I'm going to give the hotel some credit for good intentions and leave it at that. No good deed goes unpunished.

Then it's weird also to have the time be 8:45 - 9:15 am. Because, of course, this was 5:45 - 6:15 am west coast (including San Diego) time.

Those of us who woke up on the west coast that day to alarm clock radios which were talking about the attacks already under way would be well aware of that. Which implies that the Marriott employee who came up with that remembrance was probably not on the west coast 12 years ago (or else working a late shift and getting up late as a result).

Well, the first plane hit at 8:46 AM, the second plane at 9:03 AM, the first tower fell at 9:59 AM and the last tower fell at 10:28 AM ET. So if you honestly think the genius at the Marriott was actually thinking about 8:45 - 9:15 AM as being any kind of alignment with actual 9/11 events, you're being much more forgiving than me. :D :D :D

Yeah, it was probably typical Marriott stinginess, give the appearance of giving something away without really doing so, I imagine anyone with something to do that day is up and on their way by 8:45. Probably the muffins left over from the $25 buffet.

Way beyond tacky.
