Best Use of Points - Category 6

Hi everyone. Long story short - I booked a travel package for Hawaii and opted to pay cash instead of using the hotel certificate. So, now I have a time sensitive Category 6 certificate for 7 nights. I realize opinions on "the best use of points" vary greatly, but for purposes of this question, I define "best use of points" as staying at a resort where the cash price of the room would be high. Nothing's worse, in my opinion, than using points for a $129/night room. So, with regard to Category 6 (or Category 7 for 30k more points) - what are the most expensive resorts? I'm intrigued by the JW Guanacaste in Costa Rica, and also the Camelback Inn in Arizona. Your thoughts/input/expertise is appreciated.

If you would prefer to use your 7 nights after the deadline, try calling up Marriott customer service and ask to have the hotel portion of the travel package extended. I have had them say yes on two different occasions.

Personally, I would be thinking more about where I wanted to go and less about trying stay at the highest cost hotel possible. While I like a top-notch, expensive hotel as well as most others here, I also like to do and see things where I'm staying. And that is usually more important to me for the overall trip.

So the real question may be more about what you want to "do" or "see" during your trip? Do you want a beach vacation? Mountains? Skiing? Big City? Where in the world would you like to travel? Figure that out, and then find the best Marriott you can in that area and see if you can use your points there.
