I always use it now. mainly because I think it's a nicer thing to do for the hotel itself. They can plan better. I always get a notification on my phone when my room is ready. And I use the app to give me directions to the hotel. I don't have to put in the address. Just click. I have, on more than one occasion actually contacted the hotel to change things (king bed to two doubles, etc) or get other information, YMMV on that one. It has always worked for me but some complain that no one responds on the other end.
As for consistency, I would have to agree in one regard. The Marquis in DC claims to NEVER get my request for late checkout (and I always confirm that with everyone just in case). All other hotels in the area don't seem to have a problem with it. Just the Marquis. |
I just updated the app today and it says you can "Make a Green Choice" by opting out of housekeeping right from the app.

I noticed the Green Choice option as well, and at a Marriott tonight, and a different Marriott tomorrow. However, I don't see the option to decline room service for points. Probably only for participating hotels that already have that offer?

You need to be staying two or more nights for the program. No option to decline if only one night stay. I don't think I'd want to check into a room not cleaned after the previous occupants, although some properties have tried that!

Used mobile check-in today for the first time - Renaissance Curacao Resort & Casino.
Reward room booked was Resort Room. Upgraded to Ocean view. Based on a search yesterday there were two ocean view rooms available for the week. Very pleased. I have no basis for comparison of mobile check-in vs other methods as this is my first Marriott stay. I am Gold via SPG. |
Tried to use mobile check-in for the first time yesterday.
Estimated arrival time was 16:00. I changed that to 23:45 as I already knew I was going to arrive quite late. App didn't allow me to check-in. Always received an error like "To make changes you need to contact the hotel directly". (This is not the exact phrase) Any reason why? |
What time did you try? There is likely a cutoff time of like 4 or 6 pm hardcoded into the app and your change doesn't matter.

Yes, just last week. I had put a 6pm arrival time but realized it was going to be more like 6:30. So at 5:30 I went into the app and adjusted my arrival time (kind of just to see if it would let me, because obviously a 30-minute delay during normal hours wouldn't really matter at all). I was more disappointed that this was one of the few hotels offering mobile key (Boston Marriott Long Wharf), but my app never offered the option. Maybe it's Apple only?

That's my guess. Has anyone else done a mobile check-in & then changed the check-in time?
Cheers My intention was to alert the hotel I would check-in late. So the only real option to do this is to call the hotel apparently. Would be a nice addition to the app according to me. |
So you mobile checked in once successfully, then tried to update the arrival time? I would think it doesn't matter at that point, the arrival time is probably just to help them triage the available rooms (if necessary) and I bet isn't normally read.
I do wonder if doing the mobile check-in would prevent them from reselling the room should you physically arrive very late and they had a need for it? |

I do wonder if doing the mobile check-in would prevent them from reselling the room should you physically arrive very late and they had a need for it? My intention was indeed to inform the hotel that we would be coming for sure, albeit late, and avoid being walked. (it was after 2AM when we physically checked-in) This is what the navigator (those fancy names ) who checked us in told me: At midnight all reservations that haven't been checked-in are automatically released and switched to no-shows. So he needed to do some kind of refresh and reactivation of the reservation. He actually advised to do a mobile check-in if you know you would arrive after midnight. I don't know if this hotel specific or company wide. And off course you should be able to do a mobile check-in :D |
UPDATE:
Staying in the same hotel tonight. This time I did the online check-in before noon and encountered no problems. Oh yes, and I received an upgrade to a Junior Suite :D^ |
Anyone have issues with mobile checkin not counting you as checked in? Had a weird experience at a FFI in Iowa City last weekend. Staying on a Cat 5 megabonus cert. Did mobile check-in, stopped at front desk to get my keys. A week after checkout I still hadn't received an email with my bill or a night credit but noticed my CC on file had been hit with a $11.35 charge that went from pending to final. Called hotel and they said I hadn't marked by the person that checked me in as arriving and was a no show. The $11.35 was taxes for the room. The gentleman I talked to on the phone said there had been an issue with several stays that weekend. How can I be checked in but a no show? Does the hotel still have to mark something upon my arrival?
