Staying in SLC for one night before catching a flight. Would you stay downtown or at one of the airport Marriott's? Which one do you recommend?

for me, depends on my depature time...........

And arrival time the day the before. If you're arriving late and/or leaving before 9 am, stay at the airport.

Would you choose Fairfield Inn Airport or Courtyard Airport?

I'd choose the cheapest if it's a 1-night stay. FFI gives you brekkie; CY doesn't. Not knowing your departure time that may or may not make a dif.

Wherever you stay, in th parking lot by all of these hotels is the best mom n pop restaurant I have ever eaten at in my life. They scratch make all their own breads, etc. I know they also deliver (at least to the springhill). It is called "Robert's".

The Downtown Marriott's to the airport are no more than 20 minutes away. Minimal traffic. Lots of restaurants in the area and lounges are OK. I've stayed at all of them and prefer staying downtown. OTOH, if you're just looking for a place with a clean room and a shuttle, the CY is a decent choice.

Probably late, but stay at the Marriott City Center. 15 minutes to the airport regardless of the time of day. A quick walk to City Creek, Main St Temple, restaurants, bars and lounges. Takashi sushi is a must eat.
